Matthew Calvey

Matthew Calvey, 45, of Whitney Point, N.Y., died Wednesday in UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, N.Y.

Born July 12, 1975, in Hazleton, Pa., he was the son of Francis R. and Joanne (Preat) Calvey of Whitney Point, N.Y. Matt was born with a diagnosis of Lowe Syndrome. He has made it through several physical limitations, but always continued to live his life to the fullest of his ability. He has made many memories, and will never be forgotten. He received a kidney transplant from his sister, and will now pay it forward by donating his organs to benefit others. His great smile and contagious laugh will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved Matt. Stay forever young.

He was very fond of music and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and cooking shows. A matchbox car enthusiast, he also enjoyed collecting hats.

Also surviving are his two sisters, Kathryne “Kaeti” Smith (Austin), Whitney Point, N.Y.; and Christy Burns (Justin), Mayfield, Pa.; godmother and aunt, Kathy Fedor, Scranton, Pa.; godfather and uncle, Joseph Calvey (Linda), Binghamton, N.Y.; two nephews and three nieces. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and staff members from ACHIEVE that all provided great friendship and support throughout his life.

The family would like to thank the staff at UHS hospital that provided exceptional care to Matt throughout the past year and the staff that assisted overall with the organ donation process.

A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
