L. Edward Moody

The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak
At a funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on his tombstone
From the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of his birth
And spoke in the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time
That he spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved him
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matter is how we live and love
and how we spend the dash.

Reflections of a Life Well Lived

L. Edward Moody, 79 passed away July 25, 2020 in Clarks Summit.  Ed was born March 20, 1941 in Washington DC to Dr. Louis and Iris Moody.  He grew up strong, independent, creative, taking risks, having fun and creating his own path.

Ed, as he was affectionately known, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Georgia Tech University and graduated with a MBA from Temple University.  After college, he worked for several companies which included Teleflex Honeywell and Lockheed Martin.  In his last corporate position, he served as President of Weston Controls Company now known as Lockheed Martin.    Ed (N3ED his call sign) was an active member of the Frankford HAM Radio Club for many years.  He was also an active member of the National Association for Amateur Radio (ARRL) for more than 50 years.   Ed also served as a member of Glen Oak Country Club and former member of the Country Club of Scranton.

Ed married DIANE CALABRO in June 1990, a blissful marriage that lasted until his passing on July 25, 2020.

Ed embraced life.  He was a hard-working and giving man.  He loved to travel and was always looking for his next adventure.  He enjoyed vacationing in Greece, Italy and the Caribbean Islands.  He also enjoyed traveling to annual family gatherings in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Virginia. In recent years,  he was focused on keeping himself healthy by playing golf, walking and enjoying the outdoors.

Ed leaves to cherish his memories, a daughter Jennifer Moody, sons Joe Calabro with wife Kathy Calabro, Jeffrey Calabro with wife Heather Calabro, grandchildren Bobby McGhee, Amanda Calabro, Jeffrey Calabro, Jr. and Cassie Calabro.  Also brother-in-laws Michael Bendersky with wife Ann Bendersky, Joseph Bendersky with wife Carmen Bendersky, Ronald Bendersky with wife Diane Bendesky along with a host of friends and colleagues.

Ed, thanks for sharing your life’s journey with us.   Your memory is so clear. You meant so much to all of us. Your spirit touched us year after year.   Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.  You are loved beyond words and beyond measure. You were a special sole, fearless and dear.  You filled us with your joy and laughter in each day’s adventures year after year.   And for that we are so grateful that you chose to share your life’s journey with us here.  We think of the things you used to say and all the things you would do. Now we have great memories to brighten our day and bring us a smile through and through.  Your memory is our keepsake with which we will never part.  Now we can be happy for tomorrow because we were so privileged for knowing your yester years.

Now for his buddies in the HAM Radio world, N3ED, as he was known brought his passion to radio operators everywhere around the globe.  This was his true passion. He became a member of the Frankford Radio club that enabled him to compete and win numerous awards.  He built a giant tower in his backyard to crank up and boost his signal and challenged HAM enthusiasts in hamfest contests to their defeat.

To his golf buddies, Ed was regularly seen meeting his competition each Saturday sharply at 7:00 am T-time striving for that perfect hole-in-one.   And, where every day on the greens was beautiful and sunny, with eighteen holes in sight playing each hole the game of his life.

And from his loving partner in life, Diane, who touts what a wonderful man and very supportive husband throughout their 30 years of marriage and she misses him dearly.  She looks back at those years with so much happiness. He was not only a wonderful husband but a wonderful father, grandfather, best friend and colleague…and so much more.  He was her soul mate and inspiration—her steadfast rock that helped her through thick and thin.  Ed supported and loved us all and was always there to help navigate through life’s challenges.

Ed’s ability to make everyone feel comfortable, secure and loved were his greatest strengths.  Ed was such a gentlemen, well-mannered and polite, but always quick with a witty remark.  His good nature attracted people the moment he walked into a room.

Ed, your life was a blessing, the memories a treasure; you are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

Those we love can never be more than a thought away for as long as there’s a memory they live on in our hearts to stay.   –anonymous
