Gregory Johnson

Gregory Jude Johnson, 25, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Clarks Summit, passed into eternity on Saturday, April 25, at home. He will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him.

Gregory was born Nov. 13, 1994, in Philadelphia and was the beloved son of Clarks Summit Mayor Herman R. Johnson and Christine Barbour Johnson. Educated in the Abington Heights schools, he was a 2014 graduate of Abington Heights High School. A great experience for Gregory during his junior and senior years was serving as junior council member on Clarks Summit Borough Council along with his father, who was an elected official member of council.

Greg was into physical fitness and worked as a personal trainer when he moved to Florida. That is how he segued into doing weight lifting programs. Eventually he was ready to enter into competitions. Right from the beginning he placed second or third and got better at winning as time went on. He was dedicated. Not bad for a beginner he would say. Greg also loved boating along the Florida coast line with his girlfriend Veronica in their free time.

He loved good food and favored Italian food over all else. It was great that his girlfriend was from Florence, Italy, and a master at cooking. But his favorite dessert was from Magnolia Bakery in New York City and banana bread pudding. New York City was the best place to eat for "sweet" eaters and he was one of them … although Gertrude Hawk candy, right in his hometown, he raved about, too. Greg was a people person with many friends who are saddened by his loss.

He along with his brothers and sisters grew up in the Highland Avenue neighborhood of Clarks Summit, an ideal place to raise children. His childhood memories were almost sacred to him and when conversing with him about anything to do with that time frame he'd reflect stating they were the glory days of his childhood with all of the neighborhood kids and moms and dads included. An awesome joyous time indeed.

Gregory was the youngest of the six Johnson family children. He was nicknamed "the Caboose Kid." His sisters lovingly referred to him as "Gregory Juddah Buddah" but his brothers called him "Gregory the Great."

His parents and siblings will grieve the loss of our caboose kid, Gregory Jude Johnson, every day forevermore. Rest peacefully, Gregory Jude, until we meet again.

Also survivng are his siblings: three adored sisters, Jessamyn Reinhard, Dunmore; Gabrielle Reinhard Frechette and husband, Jeremy, New York City; and Renay Langley and husband, Nathan, East Norriton; his ever faithful two brothers, Alexei and Jonathan Johnson, both of Clarks Summit; a nephew, Jonathan Johnson Jr.; and two nieces, Niyah and Rayah Langley; his aunt and godmother, Carrie Nielsen, Long Island, N.Y.; godfather, Roland Johnson, Scranton; aunts, uncles and cousins; and his companion, Veronica DeFelice, Pompano Beach, Fla.

A memorial Mass will be Friday at 5 p.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor Joseph D. Quinn, pastor. Those attending must wear a facial mask, observe social distancing and the church guidelines. Interment, Clarks Green Cemetery, private at the conveniece of the family.
