Faye Kostelnik

Faye A. Kostelnik, RN, 74, a longtime resident of Dalton and most recently a resident of Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday into the loving arms of her husband after a brief illness. She was the devoted and loving wife of Michael J. Kostelnik, who recently passed away Feb. 23, 2020. They are both now reunited together in Heaven holding hands and void of any physical pain after being separated for a short four months.
Born Nov. 5, 1945, in Lakewood, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Clayton Lynn Hocker and  Mary Catherine Hocker Truitt. Faye was educated in the Lord Baltimore schools and was a 1963 graduate of Lord Baltimore High School, Ocean View, Del., and received her nursing degree from Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing Salisbury, Md. In 1966, she met the “love of her life” on a blind date introduced to her by her roommate in nurses training. Faye and Mike married in 1966 leaving Bethany Beach, Del., after spending her childhood years growing up at the beach and having her toes in the sand to relocate to NEPA to begin her nursing career.
Faye was a compassionate RN devoting her life to caring for her patients and their families employed by Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Newton-Ransom Convalescent Home, Newton-Ransom Twp., Allied Services as day program RN for vocational services and assistant director of nursing at Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Marworth Treatment Center and various physician offices in NEPA. She devoted her life to the field of nursing and was a strong advocate for her patients.
She  was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Church, Waverly United Methodist Church and Parker Hill Church. Faye was a member of the Lackawanna Trail Junior-Senior High School Booster Club, Homecoming Committee. Faye was a lifetime member of Dalton Fire Company, having served as a past president, its Relief Association having served as treasurer, also a member of the Auxiliary. She was a member of the Dalton Business and Professional Association, past co-chair of the Our Lady of the Abingtons Fall Festival, served as eucharist minister, a cantor and CCD instructor at Our Lady of the Snows Church, a Weight Watchers leader and CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, also a volunteer for the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen.
Faye immensely enjoyed her two granddaughters, Breanna and Kayla, affectionately named them “Star” and “Punkin’ Girl,” respectively. Faye loved her roles as wife, mother and Ne-Ne. Her favorite pastimes were playing bingo, scrabble, dominoes and attending antique and classic car cruises while proudly showing her 1979 Ford Ranchero. She took pride in her holiday baking of her chocolate chip cookies always stored in a Charles Chips tin. Faye enjoyed beautiful sunrises on the Atlantic beaches of Bethany Beach, Del., and Ocean City, Md. Faye loved her Thursday afternoon coffee breaks with her son-in-law Bob and was deeply grateful for her daughter-in-law, Beth who decorated her room at Skilled Nursing for every holiday. She was proud of her children, their spouses and her granddaughters and their accomplishments and most recently penned the phrase “I am blessed” and was often heard saying “Jesus Watch Over You” and now leaves a legacy of love in her wake.
Faye’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, particulary the staff of 2 South and Regional Hospital of Scranton as well as Dr. Stephen Jaditz, Dr. Mark Murnin and Dr. William J. Speicher for their professional, compassionate care that they provided to her.
Surviving: daughter, Kathleen (Kostelnik) Wood and husband, Robert, of Dalton; a son, Kenneth Kostelnik and wife, Elizabeth (Ridgeway), of Dalton; a sister, Aleisa Timmons and husband, Buddy, Delaware; a brother, Lynn Hocker and wife, Alison, Maryland; granddaughters, Breanna and Kayla Wood; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive immediate family and friends Monday, July 6, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, with a memorial service at 10:15 a.m. by the Rev. MaryAnn Meyer, pastor, Waverly United Methodist Church. Interment, Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton.
