Eleanora Cavanaugh

Eleanora A. (Dischino) Cavanaugh (affectionately known as “Ellie”), 91, of Clarks Summit, peacefully passed away on Wednesday at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 9, 1930 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Cosmo and Amalia (Alberci) Dischino, who were emigres from Italy.

Ellie lived a long, active and fulfilling life. Aside from being a loving and devoted mother of five, she worked hard all her life. Not only was Ellie an accomplished seamstress, she had many other jobs, as she worked in retail, insurance, bakeries, and was a cook in a cafeteria. After finishing up in the cafeteria every day, she would then tutor children and help them with their homework, which she enjoyed the most.

In Ellie’s spare time, she loved travelling North America by train as a co-director of the Mystic Valley Railway Society. Because of this, she found her passion for traveling and had opportunities to tour the world. Ellie was happiest when spending time with her family at the beach on Cape Cod. She loved to entertain her family and friends at barbeques in her back yard, and cook big meals and bake cookies during the holidays. She also loved tending to her gardens, planting trees and flowers every spring.

Ellie was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Parish. She was an active member in her community and happily volunteered her time whenever needed.

Surviving are three sons: John Cavanaugh of Waverly, James Cavanaugh of Bethesda, MD, and Paul Cavanaugh and wife Deirdre of Tampa, FL; two daughters: Joanie Erpelding and husband Michael of South Abington Township, PA, and Christine Cavanaugh of Bellingham, MA; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Dischino; and her sisters, Tina Kelly, Jill Johnson, and twin sister, Dora Carter.

Ellie is finally at peace and has joined her mom, dad, brother and sisters in Heaven. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.

According to her wishes the services will be private. A private cremation will take place at Jennings-Calvey’s on site crematory.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Women’s Resource Center in Scranton, PA.
