William A. "Bill" Lombardi, 99, of Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, just 13 days shy of his 100th birthday. He was the husband of Camille Busillo Lombardi.

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on July 24, 1926, Bill was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Giuseppe and Carolina Semintilli Lombardi. He graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1944 and attended St. Thomas College, now known as The University of Scranton.

A proud member of the Greatest Generation, Bill honorably served his country as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II. Although he trained as a sharpshooter in preparation for deployment during the Battle of the Bulge, he was ultimately assigned to Angel Island, California, where he used his Italian language skills to serve as a translator for Italian prisoners of war. For his service, he was awarded the American Campaign Medal.

He enjoyed a distinguished career with the John Hancock Life Insurance Company, where he served as the NEPA Assistant District Sales Manager for more than 30 years.

A man of deep faith and community involvement, Bill attended the Basilica of St. Ann's annual Novena for more than 85 years. He was a member of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green; a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus; and a former member of the St. Lucy's Holy Name Society, Scranton.

Bill embraced life with positivity, enthusiasm, and vitality. He was a devoted New York Yankees and New York Giants sports fan. He loved to dance and remained an avid dancer well into his 80s, and continued exercising at Brown's Gym through his early 90s.

Above all, Bill cherished his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the greatest sources of joy in his life. In addition to his wife, Camille, he is survived by his children, William M., Joseph, and Marion Lombardi; his grandchildren, A. Maria Munley and husband, Malcolm Brown, Margo Lombardi and husband, Michael Proto, and Maura Munley; his beloved great-grandchildren, Wesley Brown and Mila Proto, as well as cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elida Lispi Lombardi; son, Eugene "Gene" Lombardi; sisters, Yolanda Lombardi and Mary Genovese; sisters-in-law, Assunta (Sue) and Alura Lispi; and brothers-in-law, Santo Genovese and Tino Lispi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church before the Mass. Private interment will take place at the Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.
