Virginia A. Grande, 79, of South Abington Township, died on Saturday, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of the late John A. Grande who died January 17, 2011. The couple had been married over 45 years.
Born May 17, 1944 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Israel and Mary (Vola) Owens. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Paul’s High School. Virgina worked for Abington Heights School District as the secretary to the principal for over 29 years. She was a longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.
Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family’s needs before her own. For many years, she would make Sunday dinner for her elderly aunts and family through the time that her grandchildren were raised. She took pride in a clean home, had a strong sense of responsibility and reliability at her place of employment, and was a devoted fan of her daughters and three granddaughter’s sports and activities. She valued time with family and friends and will be truly missed.
The family extends a special thank you to Dunmore Healthcare Center and Allied Service Inpatient Hospice Unit for their care and compassion, with a special thank you to her caregiver, Patty Taylor.
Surviving are two daughters: Christine Getz and husband Jerry, S. Abington Twp., and Sharon Borgia and husband Gary, Clarks Summit; granddaughters, Lindsay and Nicole Getz, and Mikayla Kohanski.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Owens.
The funeral will be at 11am on Thursday at Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. Interment, Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 9:00-10:45am at the church.
