Thomas M.
Cawley
Sep 18, 1948 — Jul 12, 2026
Thursday
Glen Oak Country Club
5:00 - 8:00 pm (Eastern time)
Born in Scranton on September 18, 1948, Tom was the son of the late James and Margery (O'Horo) Cawley. He grew up on the South Side of Scranton, where he attended Nativity of Our Lord grade school and graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1966. Tom worked for over 44 years as an electrician, retiring in 2010, and was a proud 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 81. He frequently attended Friday breakfast club with his work buddies at the Honky Tonk in Dunmore.
Tom took great pride in his historic home, which he spent more than three decades updating and renovating. Tom kept himself busy with recreational activities throughout much of his life, carrying his childhood love of baseball into early adulthood. An avid golfer, for many years he could be found out on the greens at Panorama or Rock Creek Golf Course, where he insisted on walking over taking a golf cart. When injuries eventually prevented Tom from hitting the links, he transitioned to classes at Jaya Yoga. He also never missed a Notre Dame or Michigan football game on TV. Tom firmly believed in leaving room for dessert after dinner, and he always had a half-gallon of Manning's Ice Cream in his freezer.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Sara Cawley (Scott), Washington, DC; two brothers, Jimmy (Jenny), Brevard, North Carolina; and Dennis (Cheryl), Moscow, Pennsylvania; and two nieces.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Thursday, July 23 at the Glen Oak Country Club. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, with brief remarks around 6:30 pm. A buffet dinner will be provided. Please do not feel obligated to wear dark colors.
Tom was a long-time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, where memorial contributions may be made in his name.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, (570) 586-0811.
