Sylvia A. Scartelli, 68, South Abington Twp., died Wednesday in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. She was the loving wife of Paul Scartelli. The couple was married for over 36 years.
Born Oct. 4, 1948 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Catherine Kosminski Klonoski. A 1966 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Marywood University. She was a teacher for the Head Start Program in Scranton and also a substitute teacher for the Abington Heights School District. She was a member of Church of St. Gregory Parish, Clarks Green, and was a CCD instructor.
A loving devoted wife and mother, she cherished her family and enjoyed trips to visit her children in Philadelphia. A good friend to many, she was kind hearted and was a caregiver for several individuals. A true mother to others, she was a mentor and educator by nature and described as a "second mother" by many. She cherished her children and her gentle ways and smile will be sadly missed.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and doctors at Regional Hospital of Scranton, Abington Manor, Allied Skilled Nursing, Allied Hospice and the Hematology & Oncology Associates of Northeastern Pennsylvania for the care given to Sylvia.
Also surviving are a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Kara, both of Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Joseph Scartelli (Fran), Radford, Va.; nephew, Joey Scartelli; and niece, Nicole Scartelli Sykes (Anthony); as well as many cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by the Rev. John M. Lapera. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
