Steven A. Green, whose charm, humor, and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, April 10, 2026, with his wife, Susanne, by his side. Steve fought a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 63.

Born in Scranton on September 24, 1962, Steve was the son of Martha Vonderhey and the late Amos R. Green. He graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in 1981 and after graduation, Steve proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Navy 1983-2004.

His military service reflected his deep sense of patriotism, duty, strength, and commitment—qualities he carried with him long after his retirement.

Chief Green’s distinguished military career included: Plank-owner on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) and being stationed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, an experience that reflected his dedication and presence during pivotal moment in our nation’s history. After active duty, he continued to serve his country for the next nine years at the National Guard Bureau Headquarters in Washington DC.

In 2013, Steve and Susanne moved back home to the Benton Township area. Returning to his roots, Steve drew upon his love of the land, became a budding farmer, learning new skills, welcoming friends, family and neighbors to the farm stand in LaPlume. Steve also continued to serve his country and was employed as a senior analyst.

Steve’s world was the love of his life, Susanne his wife. As teenagers, the couple met roller-skating—a moment sparking a lifetime of love and partnership. Married in 1983 at the Wedding Bell Chapel in San Diego, they began a journey filled with devotion, support and laughter. Married for over 40 years, Steve and Susanne were nearly inseparable, they volunteered at the local Food Share, worked their farm, loved playing with their grandchildren and enjoyed the simple fun times at home watching sunsets. When asked his favorite memory Steve recalled their adventure on the North Shore of Hawaii flying in a glider airplane, weightless, without an engine, over the beaches and mountainsides, gliding on faith, a breathtaking spiritual experience.

To know Steve was to love him. With his gift for making people feel happy and at ease, together with his ability to inspire through words, these exceptional talents made a lasting difference in the lives of so many, especially in difficult times.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Mary Netherton and her partner Jason, and Sara Battles and her husband Logan; his grandchildren, Jack, Andrew, Alexandra, Molly, Madeline, and Emma; his nieces and nephew, Katie (whose devoted care meant so much to him), Kelly, and Scott; his brothers, Michael (Beth) & Barry(Tinker)and sisters, Christine(Darryl) & Lynn Marie(Eddie); his brother-in-laws, Thomas(Liliana) & John(Emma)and sister-in-law Paula(Jeff, deceased 2026) and his lifelong best friend, Jeff Ellsworth, Violet and Pete and their children, as well as the Cobb and the Dixon families.

Steve Green’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and connection. Steve was deeply spiritual, he will be remembered for what he accomplished and-how he made people feel—valued, supported, and truly loved.

The funeral will take place at 10:30am on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the Church of Saint Gregory, 330 N Abington Road, Clarks Green with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9-1030am.

Burial with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

In Lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to: Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company of Benton Township, in appreciation for their service and dedication to the community he loved.

In honoring Steve’s life, may we all strive to live with love, humor, generosity, and an open heart.
