Stephen G. Selige

Stephen G. Selige, 81, of Clarks Summit, died peacefully at home Saturday July 2nd.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stephen and Martha (Lee) Selige. After graduating from Keystone and Wilkes Colleges with a degree in Finance, Steve served in the Air Force attaining the rank of Captain. He served as a Radar Intercept Officer at several bases, completing his service in the remote Canadian Arctic.
A lifelong resident of the Abingtons, he was a pillar of the community. He owned multiple business throughout his life, most notably the Ice Cream Shoppe in Chinchilla and the Martinizing Dry Cleaners in Clarks Summit and Tunkhannock, as well as many commercial properties.
He was dedicated to community service. As a young man he was a volunteer with the Chinchilla Hose Co., later becoming Fire Chief. He served on the Board of Keystone College and was a strong supporter of education. Steve was a member of the Rotary Club of the Abingtons for over 48 years, serving as President from 1980-81. In addition to serving as Club President, Steve served on the Board of Directors and Charitable Trust Board of Directors. He was also the Chairman of the Rotary 4th of July Fireworks for many years, an avid participant in Taste of the Abingtons, dedicated volunteer with Adopt-a-Highway, among many other duties throughout the years. He was an elder of First Presbyterian Church Clarks Summit.
Steve was a tremendously well rounded man that many should aspire to be. He was a veteran, entrepreneur, gentleman farmer, hunter, fisherman, swan raiser, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, legend, a neighbor and friend to all. His lifelong goal was to improve the lives of others. There was nothing that Steve could not accomplish and these traits were obvious to anyone who had ever met him. Most of all he loved his life and lived every moment to the fullest. Well into his children’s adult lives they were still hearing new stories of all he had seen and done.
He was first married to the former Marjorie Mack and then to the former Carol Raker. He is survived by his children: Karen Selige of Fernandina Beach, FL, Susan Selige of Gettysburg, Stephen Jr. and wife Ashley of Clarks Summit, Christopher and wife Jessica of Waverly, and Tyler Selige of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren: Alexa, Jackson, Samuel, Emerson, Olivia, and Benjamin; sisters: Marianne and husband Wayne Williams of Dallas, PA, Sara (Sally) and husband Dennis Heil of Frenchtown, NJ and Nancie and husband Richard Siegel of Charlotte, NC as well as many nieces and nephews.
