Ronald R. Leas, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at Regional Hospital of Scranton from natural causes.
Born and raised in West Scranton, Ron was the son of the late Gordon and Alice (Figart) Leas. A graduate of West Scranton High School (’61), Ron served in the U.S. Army Reserves (1963–1969).
He was the founder and owner of the Leas Insurance Agency, where he dedicated over 50 years to serving the people of Clarks Summit, Scranton, and the surrounding communities. Ron devoted more than four decades to various local organizations, including the Lackawanna Heart Association and the Lackawanna Blind Association. His civic contributions included serving as Mayor of Dalton and as Chair of the Clarks Green Zoning Hearing Board.
He played trombone and piano, performing with many local groups, notably The Ron Leas Big Band. Ron loved vintage cars, fine cigars, travel, and bass fishing.
He was preceded in death by parents Gordon and Alice, his daughter Lori Geary, and brother Barry. He is survived by his son Jeff, daughter Kristen Jesse, stepdaughter Noel, grandchildren Ryan, Evan, Sion, and Hannah, and great-grandson Caleb.
In accordance with Ron's wishes, there will be no public viewing. A service of remembrance and gathering will be arranged through Jennings Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit or to a local animal shelter of choice.
