Robert C.Kozlowski, 91, of Scott Township, died Thursday, in Allied Services Hospice Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Teresa (O’Loughlin) Kozlowski.

Born May 31, 1927 in Taylor, he was the son of the late Edward and Anna (Chellis) Kozlowski. Robert honorably served his country in war and in peace in the United States Army during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star and retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class after 20 years of service. He later worked for the Veteran’s Administration

When Robert was a young GI stationed in Germany, he made a pilgrimage to Lourdes in southwest France. On Good Friday in 1960, the owners of the hotel placed him at a table with two young Irish women so he would have conversation partners. A few months later, he rode his scooter to Dublin to ask Michael O’Loughlin for his daughter’s hand in marriage. He proposed to Teresa at the ruins of St. Kevin’s Monastery in Glendalough. They were married in Dublin on December 28, 1960. They were both devoted to Mary who blessed them with a long and happy marriage and a strong family.

Robert was an extremely devout Catholic and often prayed the Rosary. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Harveys Lake and St. John Vianney Parish in Scott Twp. Robert was an avid gardener and was known to produce some of the world’s greatest tomatoes. He loved traveling with his wife and playing cards with his children and grandchildren. He only showed mercy to the youngest grandchildren.

Surviving are his children: Mary Kleiner (Alex) of Berwick, Anna Kozlowski of Montgomery, AL, Stephen Kozlowski (Lisa) of North Topsail Beach, NC, Lucy McKaig (Steven) of Cape May Courthouse, NJ, Bernadette Kozlowski of Asheville, NC, and Robert Kozlowski (Christina) of Scott Twp.; grandchildren: Daniel, Rebecca, and Catherine Kleiner, Carl, Holly, and Laura McKaig, Alexander, Toni, Kevin, Bernadette, and Edward Kozlowski, Hannah, Padraic, and Jamison Kozlowski; great-grandchild: Eden Kozlowski; a special niece: Catherine Halpin of Preston, Lancashire, England; brother: Edward Kozlowski (Jean) of Bethlehem; cousin: Carol Kozlowski of Scranton, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition his loving wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Hilary Kozlowski.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 10-11:45am at Corpus Christi Church, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township. The funeral will follow at 12pm with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, Ph.D., Pastor. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
