   Raymond W. Bechtel, 84, of Clarks Summit, died Saturday at Allied Services Hospice Center. He was the loving husband of the former Jean Sporer. They were married for more than 50 years.
   Born Sept. 18, 1938, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William E. and Mary Margaret (Walsh) Bechtel. A graduate of Bellevue High School, Pittsburgh, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock. He formerly was the executive director of the American Lung Association for more than 32 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clark Summit.
   An avid golfer, he was a member of the Scranton Canoe Club and a member of various golf leagues. Formerly of Pittsburgh, he was a Steelers fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.
    Also surviving are two daughters, Kimberley Ann Liptock and husband, Lawrence, of Clarks Green; Debra Ann Gavin and husband, James, of Peckville; and a brother, William R. and wife, Clare, of Scott Twp.; a grandson, Lawrence Liptock III; two granddaughters, Libby Liptock and Sara Gavin; along with nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by sister, Joan Marie Bechtel.
    The funeral will be Friday from the Church of St. Benedict, 1800 Newton-Ransom Blvd., Newton Twp., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., to be celebrated by the Rev. Stephen A. Asomah. Entombment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, 312 Adams Ave, Scranton, PA 18503; or Allied Services Hospice, 100 Abington Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
