Raniero "Ranny" Materazzi, 72, of Scott Twp. died Saturday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Facility, Dunmore after a courteous battle with cancer.Born Oct. 19, 1942 in Bloomfield, N.J., son of the late Raniero and Eda Allegrucci Materazzi, he was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, where he majored in art. One of a few art students, Raniero's paintings were displayed in the office and foyer of Bloomfield High School. He served in the Army receiving honors and continued serving his country by joined the Army Reserves. While in the Army he became the unit's photographer and traveled throughout Europe with his commanders. He worked and retired from RCA Technology, Dunmore.Raniero had many diversified passions. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and established the first fishing trip for RCA employees. He orchestrated an awards program that was sponsored by RCA Electronics, Dunmore. He loved the outdoors and had a great vegetable garden. An avid reader, he had a passion for reading various types of literature especially history. He enjoyed photography, as well as studying family history.His great love was ballroom dancing, where he appeared on WVIA Channel 44 and traveled to New Jersey, New York and through the New England states to dance. Raniero belonged to Corpus Christi Church, Montdale, where he sponsored several children through his life. He was a loving and caring brother, nephew and friend, and will be missed by and loved by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their most wonderful compassionate care.Surviving are two sisters, Dalida A. O'Malley, Clarks Green; and Virginia Marker and husband, Alexander, Spring Brook Twp.; and a brother, Delbert A. Materazzi, Sykesville.He was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Donald Walton and attorney Russell O'Malley.The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by the Rev. Richard Cirba. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
