Paula Luteran age 65, of North East, MD, passed away Friday Aug 28, 2026. She was the eldest daughter and one of six children born to, predeceased parents, Frank Kenneth and Mary Virginia Luteran. Paula earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton and later completed a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, where her doctoral dissertation focused on a linguistic and philosophical analysis of 16th century French translations of Spanish romance literature. She went on to teach Spanish and French at several institutions, including University of Pennsylvania, Stephen F. Austin State University, St. Lawrence University, Central Missouri State University, and Hutchinson Community College.

Paula traveled frequently and had deep appreciation for the Arts. A talented artist in her own right, she found joy in the little things in life––from a delicate Spanish dessert served on Limoge china to hand-painted images on gift cards she created for others. Cruising in her pristine, silver Mazda Miata was a springtime ritual when she lived in Kansas. Paula was also an avid reader and writer, recently publishing a collection of her poems in the book, Palette of Impressions.

Paula cherished her family and friends. She was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. Her greatest joy came from time spent with loved ones. Even as a young girl, her natural ability to teach shone through when she played school with her younger sisters. She will be remembered for her kindness, and playful sense of humor. Paula was appreciative of her blessings and a member of Immaculate Conception/St Jude Parish and the Ladies Order of Ancient Hibernians. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated September 10, 2026 at 10:30am, at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Rd. Clark Summit, PA. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30-10:15am at the church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
