Madelyn A. Marasco

Madelyn A. Marasco, 91, of South Abington Township passed peacefully into the arms of God on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, surrounded by her family. Madelyn is recently predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.  Both Ralph & son Michael passed away this past Fall.

Born and raised in Dickson City to Jacob and Tillie Ganczarski, Madelyn was the  eldest of two girls. In school, she excelled in her studies and developed many life-long friendships.

As a homemaker, Madelyn had a passion for cooking and baking and always ensured there was plenty of tasty meals for family and friends.   She was proud to carry her Polish heritage into many family meals and quickly learned from her Italian mother-in-law, how to prepare the best Italian meals too. Her family and friends always enjoyed the delicious cookies, breads, pies and cakes Madelyn prepared.

She met the love of her life and married Ralph in 1953 and began their 70-year love story.  Together they began family life in Rochester, NY with a son.  Looking to return to Northeast PA, the young family settled in Chinchilla. A daughter and another son completed the happy family.  Madelyn was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and loved when her children’s friends would make the Marasco’s the place to be.

She graduated from St. Mary’s School, Dickson City, where she enjoyed being part of the choir and many social organizations.  She put her secretarial and organizational skills to use while working outside of the house.  Her faith and close bond with St. Gregory’s parish provided her the opportunity to use her love of cooking while being cook for the parish priests for many years.

Family was always Madelyn’s first priority and she excelled in creating the tightly woven bond that keeps her family close. She hosted family holidays and dinners, cooking family Italian and Polish cultural favorites, making sure her children and grandchildren learned from her and carried on family traditions.

Madelyn is survived by a loving family. Son David, wife Mary Clare, Endwell, NY; daughter Donna Quigg, husband Chris, Attleboro, MA; and daughter-in-law Debbie Marasco, Clarks Summit.

She was Nana to six grandchildren. Carissa Knapp, husband Bo, Oviedo, FL; Amy Kruzel, husband Jay Robbins, Macungie; Ryan Marasco, wife Katherine, Fredericksburg, VA; Anthony Marasco, wife Monica Pearce, Brownsville, TX; Sarah Marasco, Philadelphia; Colleen Marasco, North Attleboro, MA.

Madelyn was Great Nana to seven great-grandchildren.  Isabella Robbins, Calvin Knapp, Zander Knapp, Jonathan Marasco, Henry Knapp, Maxton Knapp and Benjamin Marasco.

To know Madelyn was to love her, and she will be greatly missed by all who did.  She guided her children to successful careers in marketing/business, sales, culinary and construction.  She was always there to add a smile to someone’s day or to provide comfort.

Madelyn’s last several months were aided by the professionals at Traditional Home Hospice whose kind, caring and compassionate service provided comfort and guidance to our family with a friendly and cheerful manner.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Traditional Home Hospice, 113 Drinker St., Dunmore, PA 18512.
