Lois Jean (Kerrigan) Gallagher, 84, Clarks Summit, died Sunday. She was the wife of Eugene Gallagher. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary April 10.Born Dec. 28, 1929, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Kerrigan. A Clarks Summit resident since 1956, having moved from Scranton, she was a 1947 graduate of West Scranton High School and was proud to serve many years on its reunion committee. Before marriage, she was employed at Seaboard Finance Co. She assisted her husband in the operation of The Biggest Little Store in Town and the The Dickson A/G Market. Lois Jean was a faithful and longtime member of Clarks Summit United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, crafters group and the Ruth Circle, and was a former trustee. Active in the community, she volunteered for more than 45 years at the Abington Community Library and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was a dedicated radio reader for the Lackawanna Blind Association. She enjoyed bird watching, and was a member of the Lackawanna Audubon Society.Also surviving are a son, Richard Gallagher, Ph.D., and wife, Dr. Amy Jaroslow, Tenafly, N.J.; a daughter, Beth Gallagher, Scranton; a grandson, Benjamin David Gallagher, New York City; a granddaughter, Emily Kate Gallagher, Tenafly; cousins, nieces and nephews.She was also preceded in death by a son, David Gallagher.A memorial service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, by the Rev. Amy M. Raser, pastor, Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. Monsignor James J. McGarry and the Rev. Jeffrey D. Tudgay will also be present. The family is requesting, in honor of Lois Jean, those attending the memorial service to wear bright cheerful summer colors as they were her favorites. Interment will be private at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp. Arrangements are by Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.Memorial contributions may be made to Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, 1310 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, PA 18411, Abington Community Library, 1200 W.
