Linda Kay Smith 78, Harding, died Tuesday morning in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. A loving wife of Warren Smith for 56 years. Born July 17, 1947 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Dorothy (Huggler) Jacoby.
She was a 1965 graduate of Abington Heights High School and began working as a Key punch operator for International Correspondence School, Scranton where she worked for over 48 years. Advancing throughout her career she managed many departments, she retired in 2012 as a supervisor.
Linda was a very special person to so many people. As the oldest of seven children, her mother instincts gifted her with many talents especially to love and care for her family. As the matriarch of the family she was respected and was willing to share her thoughts in a positive manner. She was like a grandmother to many nieces and nephews who dearly loved her.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed crocheting having made many memorable afghans for most of her family. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and especially enjoyed the family vacations. Warren and Linda enjoyed traveling and cruising. She had a talent of arranging flowers and regularly would honor deceased family members with an arrangement.
Also surviving two brothers Howard Jacoby, III (Jean), Factoryville; Ivan Jacoby (Chrissy), Clarks Summit; three sisters Brenda Pardue (John ), Newton Township; Iona Hice (John), Factoryville; Sandra Jacoby, Taylor; sister-in-law, Ruth Pennay, Lancaster; brother-in-law, Ben Smith (Sharon), Florida. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Deborah Lee (Thomas) Koval, a sister in law and her husband Sandy (Robert) Endres, a nephew Thomas Koval, Jr.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family with internment in Newton Cemetery Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
