Leslie Heiner Gibson, 72, died peacefully on July 16th as a result of a brain aneurysm in April. She was married to David Gibson for 47 years.
After their marriage in Pittsburgh, they moved to Clarks Summit, PA. Leslie attended The Ellis School and graduated from The Hannah Moore Academy, Reisterstown, MD. She excelled in field hockey and tennis, winning many trophies and awards for her athleticism.
She was honored as Best All-Round Athlete in her senior year. After graduating from Centenary College, Leslie returned to Pittsburgh, where she worked at Saks and Alcoa. In Scranton, Leslie found her calling working for Helen Schwartz Gifts as a bridal consultant. She was a member of The Church of the Epiphany, 25 Church Hill Road, Glenburn, PA
Leslie made friends with everyone and was known for her big heart, generosity, and joyful greetings with a huge smile. She loved colorful clothing and was known for her signature headbands. She and David traveled extensively and enjoyed sailing the East Coast from Nova Scotia to Granada, as well as the South Pacific. Leslie never missed sending birthday and anniversary cards to family and friends, and was a stickler for writing thank-you notes. (You might expect to receive one soon.) Leslie was predeceased by her parents, William and Frances Heiner. Also surviving are her brother David Heiner (Anne) and her sister Connie Gallagher (Mike), nephews David Heiner Jr. (Whitney) and Stephen Heiner (Kelsey), niece Courtney Gallagher (Nathan Routh), and nephew Will Gallagher, grandnieces Marlowe and Addie, and grandnephews Acher, Max, and Will.
A Service will be held on Saturday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Epiphany, 25 Church Hill Road, Glenburn, PA. Immediately following the Service, there will be a Celebration of Leslie’s life at Waverly Country Club, 903 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit, until 2:30 pm.
In Leslie's fashion those attending are encouraged to wear bright colors and, for those who so wish to, head bands.
While we anticipate many of Leslie's friends and family to be present to remember her life on Saturday, we thank you in advance for understanding that parking may be limited at the church grounds. The funeral home representatives will be present in the lot to guide those to other lots if need be. We are usually free to use the parking lot of the new Preschool on Pine Tree Drive as well as the Township lot at top of hill if necessary.
Entombment will be at a later date in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, followed by a gathering for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Scranton Primary Health Care, 959 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.
Arrangements are being made by Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn, Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
