Karen Marie Barren, 66, of Glenburn, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday February 20th surrounded by family. She was the wife of Dr. Eric Barren to whom she was married for 37 years since May 1988.

Born February 19, 1960 in Forest City, she was the daughter of the late John and Clara (Peterka) Monasky.

Karen graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and worked as a chef. She trained at the Fontainebleau in Miami and worked at the Philadelphia Art Museum among other catering businesses throughout New York and Philadelphia regions. However, her favorite role was being Mom to her five children and being promoted to Nana.

Karen was an active member of the Abington community for 33 years. She loved spending time with her family and hosting friends for dinner parties. She loved walking on 7 mile beach in the Cayman Islands, her happy place. Also a huge pet lover, known to surprise her mom with new pets as a child. We know she is reunited with her adored dog Calypso.

Surviving in addition to her husband are children Matt (Sara), Greg (Kelly), Kim (Ryan), Andrew and Miriam. Grandchildren Bryce, Otis and Brooks. Beloved sister Gig Kraske and husband Rick, sister-in-law Verna, nieces Jessica and Ella and nephews Ryan and Norman.

A private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter in Karen's honor.
