Joseph D. Hughes, Jr.

Joseph D. Hughes, Jr. ,66, of Clarks Summit, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at Commonwealth Health Regional Hospital in Scranton, PA. Joe was born in Scranton, PA on April 22, 1955 to the late Eleanor S. (Klimitis) and Joseph D. Hughes, Sr. He graduated from Abington Heights High School, Class of 1973, where he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Diane, and was a star baseball player. 

Joe worked for Affiliated Food before fulfilling his dream of owning a grocery store. He and his wife were the co-owners of the Dalton Country Store, working along side of his sister and brother-in-law, retiring in 2017. Joe was also a realtor for Weichert Realtors Hibble & Associates with his wife. He was never seperated from Diane; they worked side by side for many years together and they loved to travel. His favorite places to visit were Disney World with his granddaughters and Ocean City, MD with the annual visit to M.R. Ducks. He loved his family, spending time with them, and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. Joe loved to golf with his buddies and was a member of many local golf leagues in the area. Once you met him, you loved him. 

Surviving are his loving family members including his sweetheart of 46 years, Diane J. (Huggler) Hughes; a son, Joseph D. Hughes, III and his wife, Dayna of State College, PA; a daughter, Heather M. Hughes of King of Prussia, PA; 2 granddaughters; Claire and Kate Hughes; a brother, Robert M. Hughes; a sister, Ann Marie Pensack and her husband, Randy; and nephews and nieces. 
He is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Hughes and a brother, Ken Hughes. 

Joe’s viewing will be held at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral service and burial will be private.
