Joseph J.
Dwyer III
Jun 11, 1963 — Oct 1, 2026
Joseph J. Dwyer III, 63, of Scranton, died Thursday at Geisinger CMC.
"Little Joe" was born June 11, 1963, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of Joseph Dwyer Jr. and the late Elizabeth (McCurley) Dwyer. Joseph was a graduate of North Pocono High School, Class of 1981. Joseph honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 6 years as Electronic Technician Nuclear second class petty officer aboard USS Permit 594. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Environmental Protection's Air Quality Division for 30 years before recently retiring.
Joe was a diehard Washington Redskins fan and a proud Penn State alum that rarely left home without his Penn State hoodie. Enjoyed many NCAA basketball tournaments, and a model train enthusiast. He was often the "straight man" in a conversation, quietly taking everything in until he delivered the perfect "zinger" that would have everyone laughing. That was Joe, he didn't need to be the center of attention to make an impression. He will be remembered by many for unmistakable laugh, his quick sense of humor and, most of all, his friendship.
He is survived by his father, Joseph Dwyer Jr., and his wife, Sharon; his sisters, Mary B. Dwyer and Holly Anthony and her husband, Bradley; and his niece, Madelyn, and nephew, Braden. He also leaves behind many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer you treating a friend or loved one to lunch in Joe's memory.
