John Zawistowski

John Charles Zawistowski 86, Pittston, PA formerly of Castle Creek, NY died Thursday, in Allied Services Hospice Center -Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was the loving husband of 57 years, married to the former Mary Ann Snyder.

Born October 3, 1938, in Wilkes Barre, PA he was the son of the late John and Viola (Uniatowski)([mother maiden name]) Zawistowski. He was a graduate of Marymount High School, Wilkes Barre. He honorably served his country in the US Army, having served in Korea. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Kings College, Wilkes Barre. He had been employed by Singer-Link, a major flight simulator company, a division of the Singer Corporation, Binghamton, NY, for many years prior to retirement. He formerly was an engineer for RCA, Dunmore, PA.

John was a devoted member of St. Maria Goretti Church in Laflin, Pennsylvania. A passionate reader, he also served as an official at high school swim meets. His craftsmanship shone through in the many beautifully hand-crafted wooden pieces he created.

Also surviving are two daughters: Christine Zawistowski MD and her husband Jason Perlman, MD, Brooklyn NY, Suzanne Caulk, PhD and her husband Stephen, Boulder, CO, Three grandchildren, two grandsons Jacob Perlman and Caleb Caulk and a granddaughter Chloe Caulk; a brother Thomas, NJ; a brother-in-law Joseph Snyder, Waverly, PA.

The funeral will be Monday September 8th, with Mass at 10 am in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, 18702 to be celebrated by Fr. Alex Roche, pastor. Interment St. Catherines Cemetery, Moscow, PA. The Parish Rosary Group will recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary in the Church ½ hour before the funeral mass. All are invited to join them.
