It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Francis Kane, who departed this life surrounded by his loving family. James, 83, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026, at Geisinger CMC Hospital where he received the utmost care from the nurses, doctors and staff. He was the husband of Karen Ann (Abda) Kane.

Jim was born in Pittston on August 15, 1942, a son of James F. and Mary C. (Sheridan) Kane.

He was a graduate of Pittston High School.  Following high school, he attended Penn State University, where he pursued a degree in Engineering. Afterward, he enlisted in the National Guard where he served his country with honor and integrity. A favorite childhood memory of Jim's was going to Williamsport with his Pittson Little League All-Star Team.

Jim worked at General Dynamics, formerly Chamberlain Manufacturing Corporation, as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, retiring after 42 years of dedication and commitment.

On July 1, 2026, Jim celebrated 48 years of marriage with his loving wife, Karen Kane (Abda). He was a proud father of two sons, James Edward Kane, wife Jessica and Gregory James Kane, wife Malari.  He devoted a tremendous amount of time coaching his sons and many of their friends in Abington Little League and Abington Youth Basketball.  He raised both sons to love sports, have a strong work ethic, and to always put family first.

Jim loved his grandchildren more than anything in this world. Eva, Avery, and James, children of Jim and Jessica and Grayden and Reagan, children of Greg and Malari.  For the past 17 years you could find Jim babysitting, running school drop offs/pick-ups, sharing his Oreos, attending baseball, softball, soccer, cheerleading, dance, gymnastics and school events for each of them. They were his everything and boy did they love their Papa.  He was also known as Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Uncle Jim was famous for teasing to push everyone in the pool, leading the family's 4th of July parade as the drummer and hosting his famous Labor Day wiffle ball and basketball games.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by sister-in-law Kathie (Tony) Barrett (Abda), brother-in-laws Eddie and Jackie Abda, and Michael Abda and fiancé Stephanie.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Teresa (Thomas) Mayock, Helen (Donald) Roman, and Anne Kane.
