J. Brian Durkin, Esq

J.Brian Durkin, Esq., 72, died May 17, 2022. His loving companion of 20 years is Mary Pollice, Philadelphia.

Born on Nov. 15, 1949, in Scranton, he was the son of the late Patrick H. and Catherine Quinn Durkin. Brian grew up in Dunmore and graduated from Dunmore High School.

He attended the University of Scranton, where he earned his undergraduate degree. After earning his graduate degree in American history from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., he worked at the Library of Congress for seven years before attending Temple Law School. He worked in private practice for many years before joining the law department for the City of Philadelphia in 2007, from which he retired in 2017.

Brian was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed American history, politics, the New York Yankees and Bruce Springsteen. He was an avid reader. He will be greatly missed by his cats, Mickey and Mortie.

Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Fran (Dominic) Durkin Keating, Waverly; half-sister, Diane LaFrance, Scranton; nieces and nephews, including Francie Healey, Santa Fe, N.M., Atty. Jody (Maureen) Healey, Clarks Summit, Barbara (Mark) Perucki, and Atty. Patrick (Julia) Durkin, Gladwyne.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Atty. John Quinn Durkin; and half-brother Gary Durkin.

Sunday visitation, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vincent Gangemi Funeral Home Inc., 2232-2240 S. Broad St., (at Wolf Street), Philadelphia, PA 19145.

Wednesday visitation, 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. by Fr. John M. Lapera at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
