Homer C. “Cork” Young, 89, passed away on Dec. 17, 2020. He was the widower of Fay Allen Young.
Born May 6, 1931, in Hollidaysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late William F. Young Sr. and Violet L. Biddle Young.
Cork was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and was a United States Army National Guard veteran who served while stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After the military, he worked as a line foreman for PP&L until his retirement in 1993.
He was a proud 32nd degree Freemason and a proud member of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
Cork greatly enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends, no matter the season. From fishing, swimming, hunting, mushroom picking, to skiing, skating and ice fishing.
His favorite advice was, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
He kept his wit, sense of humor and charm throughout his life right up to the end, and he will be deeply missed.
Surviving are five children, Joel, Clarks Summit; Randy, Scranton; Teresa Bloom, Olyphant; Melissa Day and her husband, Dennis, Massachusetts; and Amy Ayers and her husband, Mark, Ransom Twp.; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Clair and wife, Barb; Dan and wife, Iris; Jack and wife, Kathy; and Steve and wife, Penny; sisters, Janet VanZant and husband Jim, Doris Lowery and Loretta Seal.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma “Toots” MacFarlane; and a brother, William F. “Bud” Young Jr.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 11am at Abington Hills Cemetery, S. Abington Twp., and a celebration of life will follow.
