Frances Durkin Keating, 78, of Waverly, died Sunday, August 17, 2025 following a brief illness. Her husband of ten (10) years is Dominic J. Keating.
Born in Scranton, Fran was the daughter of the late Timothy F. and Mary Elizabeth Mongan Burke. She was the second of six (6) Burke siblings. Fran graduated from Marywood Seminary High School and thereafter attended Marywood College and graduated from Immaculata College where she played Varsity Field Hockey.
Fran’s golf career began at the Country Club of Scranton winning the Junior Club Championship at the age of 12. Throughout her adult life, she won the Ladies Club Championship at Scranton Country Club a record thirteen (13) times. She was a five (5) time winner of the Northeast Women’s Golf Association Championship and also competed in the Pennsylvania Women’s Amateur Championship at Oakmont Country Club. In 2011, she was elected to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of her noteworthy golf career.
Throughout her life, Fran worked as an Accountant for Parente, Randolph, Orlando and Carey, P.C as well as an Instructor of Accounting at Keystone College. She was a current and founding member of the Church of St. Gregory.
A fierce competitor and protector, Fran was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother of ten.
Fran is also survived by four (4) children, Francie Healey of Santa Fe, N.M.; Jody Healey and his wife Maureen, of Clarks Summit; Barbara Perucki and her husband, Mark of Nicholson; and Patrick Durkin and his wife Julia of Gladwyne, PA; ten grandchildren, Madeleine and Grace Mena; Catherine, Joseph and Julia Healey; Jack and Henry Perucki and Quinn, Charles and Lucas Durkin. She is also survived by four siblings; Mary Elizabeth Fuiman, Eugene Burke and wife, Linda, Marian Courtney and husband, Phil and Kathryn Burke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Q. Durkin and a son, John, Jr.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass at 10 a.m. at The Church of St. Gregory, 330 Abington Road, Clarks Green. Internment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. at the church.
