Elizabeth "Betty" Anderson, 95, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering love. To all who knew her, she was "the best Mom, the most devoted Granny B," and a cherished friend whose gentle spirit touched countless lives.
Born and raised in Scotland, Betty was the daughter of the late William and Annie Ross (Fraser). She trained at Arbroath Nursing School before beginning a journey that would shape the rest of her life. In 1952, she and her beloved husband,3
2 Norman, bravely immigrated to the United States carrying with them hope, determination, and a deep commitment to building a meaningful life together.
Elizabeth dedicated more than forty years of her career to being a Registered Nurse at Moses Taylor Hospital, where her compassion, skill, and steady presence comforted generations of patients and families. Her calling to serve extended far beyond her profession. She was a devoted deaconess at The First Baptist Church of Abington, where her faith guided her actions and her heart was always open to those in need.
A tireless volunteer, Betty gave countless hours to Allied Services and to her community, offering help wherever it was needed and friendship wherever it was welcomed. She had a special love for animals and became a guardian angel to many stray cats in her neighborhood, ensuring each one knew safety and affection.
Above all else, Betty's greatest treasure was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Thomas) Ostrowski. She leaves behind a legacy of love reflected in her grandchildren: Brittany Ostrowski, Courtney (Jon) Beckley, Brandon Ostrowski and his partner Abby Guziewicz, and Brian Ostrowski. She never missed a chance to cheer on her grandchildren's dreams and was a constant source of unconditional love.
Betty is also survived by her nieces: Valerie, Judith and Fiona Ross, Marlene Karam, and Nancy Walters. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Anderson, and her siblings: Euilleam Ross and Nan Mackay (Ross).
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff of Green Ridge Health Care Center and Residential Hospice. Their compassion, patience, and gentle care brought comfort to Mom and to all of us during her final journey. We are deeply grateful for the dignity and kindness they showed her every day.
A service will be held on Friday, June 19, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Jennings Calvey Funeral Home, 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, 336 Oak Drive, Dalton, PA 18414.
