Charles Winton Matthews III

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Win Matthews, devoted husband to Jane, loving father to Shawn and Macy, father-in-law to Lauren, adoring grandfather to Wilder, and cherished brother to Greg.

Win was an avid skier and dedicated ski patroller who found his greatest joy on the mountain. As the owner of Idlewild Ski Shop, he was a cornerstone of the community, always ready with expert advice and a helping hand for fellow snow enthusiasts.

His passion for tie-dye, music, colorful language, and beautiful cars was matched only by his love for his family and the slopes. He found his greatest peace at Elk Mountain and Crystal Lake, places that held a special place in his heart. Throughout his life, he was incredibly fortunate to cultivate and maintain lifelong friendships that enriched his journey. His vibrant spirit and genuine warmth touched countless lives.

He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the entire skiing community he served so faithfully.

A celebration of life will be held by the family later this summer.
