Charles M. Giannetta, 91, of Scott Township, died on Friday at home after a swift and unexpected two-week battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Patricia M. (Royal) Giannetta, whom he met at Abington Heights High School, who died in 2010. The couple was married for over 51 years before her passing.

Born April 27, 1935 in Scranton, Charlie was the son of the late Angelo Charles and Rose (Marabell) Giannetta. He graduated from Abington Heights High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army in Germany. After his military service, Charlie worked for 15 years at Capitol Records in Scranton as a quality control manager, having had the opportunity to meet and work with musical performers such as The Beach Boys, Al Martino and Nat King Cole. Charlie worked at Capitol during the busy years of the production of records for the Beatles. When Capitol Records closed in Scranton, Charlie chose not to move his family out to the main headquarters in Hollywood, California. He instead embarked on a new career working for the Department of Defense at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and served as a Division Chief, retiring in 2000 after 20 years. He was a life-long parishioner of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Clarks Summit, where he was married. Charlie was also active for many years on the board of the Abington Seniors Center after retirement where he served for a time as President.

Charlie was an avid hunter, always looking forward to deer season and loved fishing with his grandchildren. His favorite past time was working around his yard cutting grass and gardening and landscaping at his property in Scott Township, where for many years couples had their wedding photos taken. He always enjoyed a good game of poker and pinochle with friends. Charlie also enjoyed bus trips to the casinos in Atlantic City and later locally at Mohegan Sun. In his final years, he was a member of the Steamtown A’s (local Model A club) and frequently drove his Ford Model A in parades and around the Abingtons.

Charlie is survived by his children, Attorney and Scott Township Supervisor Michael A. Giannetta and wife Tina, of Scott Township, Kimberly Ann Lescinski and husband, David, South Canaan; grandchildren, Kristi, Jaime, and Emily Lescinski, and Michael A. Jr. and Tricia Giannetta, a sister Marie Eastman, nieces, nephews and cousins. Charlie is also survived by his long-time companion whom he met after his wife’s passing, Kathy Chessick of Dalton. He was a hard-working devoted husband and father, who was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Angelo Charles Giannetta and Rose Marabell Giannetta, and a sister Terry Manning.

His family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, nurse Lori Reese and caregivers Amanda Green and Laurie Battle who gave him exceptional care throughout his illness.

The funeral will be on Friday at 10am at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, S. Abington Twp. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 pm at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit.
