Bonnie Ann (Sanford) Kowalyk, 59, a lifelong resident of Scranton, was called to heaven Friday, July 10, 2015. Her loving husband of 37 years is Edward Kowalyk Sr. The couple was married Dec. 10, 1977, in St. Paul's Church. Bonnie was born in Miami, Fla., April 30, 1956, and was the daughter of the late Randolph E. and Marjorie (Henehan) Sanford. She was a graduate of Scranton School District in 1974, attended Keystone College, La Plume Twp., and received her Emergency Medical Technician from Lackawanna College, Scranton. Before her illness, she worked at Scranton Counseling Center as a group counselor and Lackawanna Ambulance as an emergency medical technician. She was a member of the Revival Baptist Church, North Scranton. Her family meant the world to her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bonnie was a loving and caring woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She will be forever missed by a family that loved her more than they ever could have told her.Also surviving are two sons, Randolph E. Smith and wife, Christine; and Edward B. Kowalyk Jr. and wife, Nicole; a daughter, Erica Defreitas and husband, David, all of Scranton; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a nephew, David Lupia; two nieces, Sarah Maithel and Priya Maithel; and a sister-in-law, Suzanne Maithel and husband, Peter.She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Angel Gibbs; a son, James W. Smith III; three brothers, Ricky, Randy and Martin; and two sisters, Erica Sanford and Katherine Lupia.The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Revival Baptist Church, 2020 N. Main Ave., North Scranton, with services by Pastor Randall Bloem. Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
