Barbara Ann Gilbert

Barbara Ann (Ostrowski) Gilbert, 87, a longtime resident of Clarks Summit and most recently Columbia, SC, died on Monday, in Prisma Health Hospice in Columbia, SC.  She was the wife of the late Robert Gerard Gilbert who died in 2022.  The couple was married since September 14, 1963.

Born April 13, 1936 in Wilkes Barre, Barbara was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Julia (Koterba) Ostrowski. She graduated from Mary Mount High School in Wilkes Barre.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, listening to Elvis and polkas, eating Polish food, playing bingo, watching soap operas, traveling and in her younger days, drawing. Her greatest love was caring for her family and exemplifying her Catholic faith.

Surviving are two sons: Stephen Gilbert of Columbia, SC and Robert (wife Patricia) Gilbert of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters: Theresa Richards and Anna Ostrowski; and two grandchildren: Blair Carrington Gilbert and Grant Alexander Gilbert. 

In addition to her loving husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, John Ostrowski.

The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Snows, 301 South State Street, Clarks Summit, PA with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn, pastor. Interment will follow at Clarks Green Cemetery, Clarks Green, PA. 

The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 8:30am - 9:30am at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit.
