Ann Dickinson, 96, formerly of La Plume, died on Sunday at the Gardens at Wyoming Valley in Wilkes Barre. She was preceded in death by Thomas Dickinson, her beloved husband of 72 years. In 1950, after marriage, Tom moved Ann to his birth home in LaPlume where they lived happily for 69 years and worshipped faithfully at Our Lady of Abingtons, Dalton. In 2019 they moved together to the Pines, Clarks Summit.
Ann was born in Scranton to Patrick and Anna Casey Schofield and attended Holy Rosary High School. She was formerly employed by ICS, Scranton, and Lackawanna Trail High School, where she worked over 30 years as a paraprofessional and later as attendance officer. She loved to tell stories of ‘her kids from school’ and their escapades. She was a member of the Down Yonder Singers and a past president of the Dalton Junior Women’s Club. Having met Tom square dancing, they continued to enjoy Irish dancing at the Irish Cultural Society.
Fiercely proud and full of love for her family, Ann leaves behind her daughter, Diane Bell (Ted) of Bridgewater, NJ and son, Jerry Dickinson (Teri) of Coatesville, Pa. She will also be missed by her cherished 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy, Thomas and Jerome Schofield.
The family would like to thank the Pines Senior Living of Clarks Summit and the Gardens of Wyoming Valley, Wilkes Barre, for their care and kindness, as well as nieces Marirose Southerton, Theresa Slayton, and especially Ruthann Jones.
The funeral will be Friday from Our Lady of the Abingtons Church, 700 W. Main Street, Dalton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am to be celebrated by Rev. Arbogaste Satoun, pastor. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 am until 10:15 am at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
