Amelia Macheska

Amelia Macheska, 87, of Ransom Twp., died Saturday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Facility, Dunmore. She was the widow of Walter Macheska, who died in 1990.

Born Jan. 22, 1928, in Taylor, daughter of the late Frank and Anna Shimko Petro, Amelia was a graduate of Taylor High School and, before retirement, she worked in the garment industry for 35 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, and St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, Scranton.

Amelia loved to sew and was a professional seamstress who used to make all the clothes for her daughter and herself. She loved to sew for friends and family. She loved her cat, Fluffy, and adopted cat, Garfield. She had a green thumb and loved growing flowers and plants.

The family would especially like to thank everyone at Allied Services Rehabilitation, United Methodist Homes at Wesley Village Rehabilitation, Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Commonwealth Home Health of Moses Taylor who helped Amelia over the past few years with her various health challenges.

Surviving are a devoted son and caregiver, Robert Macheska, Ransom Twp., with whom she resided; and daughter, Pat Fox, Laflin.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Sophie Grazious, Anna Badner, Mary Malinowski and Helen Maziarz; and a brother, George Petro.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Benedict, 1845 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit. Interment, St. Vladimir's Cemetery, Scranton.
