Aloysius "Al" P. Urban

Listen to Obituary

Aloysius P. Urban, affectionately known as Al or Allie, 72, of Clarks Summit, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Al leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and laughter.

Born in Duryea, PA, Al was the son of the late Aloysius and Victoria (Krafjack) Urban. He graduated from East Stroudsburg University. Al built a successful career as an independent contractor, specializing in auto parts sales, and was known for his integrity, work ethic, and warm personality.

Al’s leadership qualities emerged early—he was elected class president both in high school and at ESU. A proud brother of Sigma Pi Fraternity, Al served on the board including time as the president of the Beta Psi Housing Association. He remained deeply involved in ESU’s Sigma Pi Alumni network from graduation until his passing. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, where he played a vital role in organizing the annual bazaar for many years.

For over 30 years, Al served as President of the Abington Sportsman’s Club, contributing significantly to the club’s growth and community outreach. He was also a passionate youth sports coach—guiding teams in baseball, basketball, and soccer—and served as Minor Farm Commissioner for Abington Little League and President of Abington Youth Soccer League (Rec and Travel) for at least a decade. His commitment to recreation extended to his role as a board member of the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board, representing Clarks Summit Borough for two decades, including time as vice-chair.

Al found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved golfing with friends, cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies and Indianapolis Colts, dancing (especially to the Wanabees), reading, and planning reunions with his high school and college friends. His laughter was contagious, his spirit generous, and his presence unforgettable.

Al is survived by his wife Fran; his son Patrick Urban (Philip Fitzgerald) of Philadelphia; his daughter Victoria Urban (Amy Fetters) of Chalfont; his sisters Phyllis Granahan (Paul) and Theresa Stascavage (Bernie); and his adored grandchildren, Elliot and Anna Fetters Urban of Chalfont. In fact, Al considered all his relations and friends as close as immediate family. He is survived by all of us. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 21, from 4:00–7:00 PM at Jennings-Calvey Funeral Home (111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411). Following a cremation service, all are welcome to celebrate Al’s life on Saturday, November 22, first with a Visitation from 9:00 – 10:45 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict's Catholic Church (1849 Newton Ransom Blvd, Clarks Summit).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Abington Sportman’s Club” P.O. Box 35 Clarks Summit, PA 18411 or “Hoops 4 Hope” 133 Peggy Lane Chalfont, PA 18914.
