Roy Hoinowski

Roy Hoinowski, 71, Clarks Summit, died Tuesday in Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was the husband of the former Libby Post. The couple was married for 49 years.Born Dec. 10, 1942, in Plainfield, N.J., son of the late Joseph and Julia (Fella) Hoinowski, he was a 1961 graduate of Abington Heights High School and received his Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Scranton. He had worked at the YMCA, Dunmore, in the men's fitness center. Before retiring, he was employed by Parry Trucking, where he worked as an over the road truck driver, which he truly enjoyed. A radio enthusiast, he was the founder and organized WVIA Public Radio, served as chief financial officer and later was instrumental in the programming of classical music. He initiated the nationwide podcasting system for talking books for the blind.He had a love for music, and was a musician and a master of the saxophone. He was a member of the band in high school. He enjoyed astronomy and was delighted when Keystone Observatory secured the Dave Garroway telescope, through which he observed the stars. A professional, he also was a licensed insurance representative for Metropolitan Life and an account manager for Motor World Auto Group, Wilkes-Barre, in the Toyota department. He also had managed area Radio Shack stores.Also surviving are a son, Jacob Hoinowski, chief of Clarks Summit Fire Company, and wife, Lori, Glenburn; two daughters, Cass Griffiths and husband, Mark, Clarks Green; and Sarah DeCantis and husband, Dominic, Scranton; two brothers, Ronald J. and wife, Peggy, Phoenixville; and Paul Hoinowski, Macon, Ga.; and a sister, Joanne Hoinowski, Macon. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the family home, 811 Walnut St., Clarks Summit.Memorial contributions may be made to Clarks Summit Fire Company No. 1 Inc., P.O.
