Nannette Smith

Nannette E. (DeLong) Smith, C.R.N.A., 84, South Abington Twp., died Saturday at home. Her companion of 28 years is Paul Sherlock.

Born July 21, 1934, in East Mauch Chunk, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Grace E. (Koons) DeLong. A 1952 graduate of Womelsdorf High School, Womelsdorf, she received her nursing degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing and also received her nurse anesthetist degree and certification. She was a nurse anesthetist at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, for over 25 years, having retired in 1994.

A devoted loving mother, she was a natural care provider. She stopped working to take care of her parents. She was an avid supporter of charities and organizations that helped others.

Surviving are three sons, Eugene and wife, Maria, Havertown; James and wife, Theresa, Round Rock, Texas; and Jay and wife, Kerry, Dalton; a sister, Madelyn Hanratty and husband, Dr. Richard Hanratty, Rochester, N.Y.; a grandson, Christopher Smith; five granddaughters, Suzie Treacy Smith, Jenny Smith, Amanda Smith, Katie Smith, Jamie Smith; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by sister, Barbara Frantz, and nephew, Lawrence Frantz.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. from Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. John Bondhus, pastor of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church. Interment and graveside services at 2:30 p.m. in Franklin Heights Memorial Park, Weissport.

The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Nannette,  my old friend from our Mercy hospital days. You were an angel on earth and now one in heaven. Fond memories of a sweet, kind loving person. May you rest in peace knowing you will be missed.
