Michael Masich

Michael S. Masich, 82, a lifelong resident of Clarks Summit, died Sunday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife of 58 years was the former Joan Petrini.

Born Jan. 21, 1936, in Scranton, son of the late Michael and Anna Kahanick Masich, he honorably served in the Army. Mike worked in the modular and mobile home industry, both the retail and wholesale business. He was employed by Avanti Cigar Co., Scranton, until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit.

His many passions included golfing, fishing, having cookouts and traveling with his family. Mike was a member of the Anthracite Adventurers and took pleasure in their yearly train trips. He spent an abundance of time with his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Binka." He loved animals and was particularly attached to his dog, Teddy. He was a patient teacher and mentor.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri and husband, Anthony Suraci, Dalton; and Sheila Masich and husband, Vernon Voutour, Rowley, Mass.; and four grandchildren, George H. "Tripp" Carey III, Anna Michael Carey, Christina Domenica Suraci and Natalie Joan Masich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by the Rev. Seth D. Wasnock. There will be full military honors. Interment will be at a later date.
