Kirk Lannan

Kirk Allen Lannan, 79, of Clarks Summit, beloved husband of Glenda (Lyons) Lannan for 59 years, died on Thursday at Mountain View Care Center.  Kirk and Glenda, high school sweethearts, were married on August 11, 1962.

Born May 25, 1942 in Philadelphia, Kirk was the son of the late Edward R. and Betty R. (Essington) Lannan. Kirk honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.

He attended Wilkes College and worked for IBM as a systems engineer. Highlights of his career were teaching in Australia and working at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Kirk was an avid fan of Penn State football and NHRA drag racing. His happy place was sitting on the back porch of his home of 43 years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain View Care Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care during the last year of Kirk’s life. Their kindness will never be forgotten.

Kirk cherished being surrounded by his loving family:  children Kimberly Ryon (husband Sam) of Fleetville, Kevin Lannan (wife Lisa) of West Chester, and the late Kirk E. Lannan (wife Amber) formerly of Trevose; grandchildren Cory Potomis (wife Moira), Marissa and Brandon Foster (fiancée Sarah), and Jordan Lannan; late brother Kenneth Lannan; step sister Linda Parrish; step grandchildren Luke Ryon (wife Marisa), Kim Smith (husband Jeff), and Ben Ryon (wife Kathryn); 9 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Gloria McAdara, the late Doreen Davis (husband Robert Simmons), and Lisa Schutz (husband Jerry); brothers-in-law Tom Davis, and Jeff Davis (wife Karen); numerous nieces and nephews.

It was Kirk’s wish to have his body be donated to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Humanity Gifts Registry to facilitate the advancement of medicine. A family memorial service will be held in private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.

I echo what Bonny said. We spent many Arts Fests weekends and some PSU game weekends with Kirk and Glenda and always Kirk was so kind and we enjoyed our time spent with Kirk & Glenda. We are thinking of you as you grieve the loss of this wonderful man.

My dad, Kirk Lannan, was absolutely one of the best on Earth. Kind, smart, thoughtful, patient, loyal. Just a great person and an excellent positive example for me. I am going to miss you terribly.

Kirk was an outstanding man in many ways. My husband & I have been friends of him & Glenda for over 50 years. Weve spent a lot of sociable time together & never once in all that time did I see him be impatient, negative, argumentative or disdainful - he was always the perfect gentleman - kind, very pleasant, & helpful & their marriage was enviable. Well miss him a lot, but were thankful for many good memories.
