Joseph DiCarluccio

Joseph Nicholas DiCarluccio, 89, of Clarks Summit died Friday in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, the former Sylvia DeMato, of Clarks Summit. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Born Jan. 30, 1926, in Naples, Italy, he was the son of the late Frank and Christina (Vaccarilla) DiCarluccio. At the age of nine, he moved to the United States, living in Harlem, N.Y.

He was a World War II veteran that honorably served in the Coast Guard, making four invasions.

He moved from Toms River, N.J., to the Clarks Summit area in 2012 to be closer to his family. He previously was employed more than 25 years with the City of New York Sanitation Department, retiring as a foreman. A carpenter by trade, he retired from his second career at Massapequa Hospital, New York. He later was an enforcement officer for the Toms River Dog Licensing Bureau, and served as a volunteer for the Holiday Heights First Aid Squad.

He was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Parish, Carbondale. He was truly devoted to his family, and enjoyed working and providing for them. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, watching old movies and playing pool, but especially loved dancing with his sweetheart, Sylvia. His special zest for life will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff and caregivers at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, for their kindness and excellent care provided to Joe, and also Hospice Ascera Care. He became friends to many while a guest there.

Also surviving are a son, Frank DiCarluccio, also known as Frankie Carll, and wife, Kathleen, Scott Twp.; a daughter, Christina Corallo, Sayville, Long Island, N.Y.; granddaughters, Krista Tully and husband, Shawn; and Nicole Cutrone and husband, Vinnie; grandsons, Peter Larioni and John Corallo; and a great-grandson, Joshua Corallo.

The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, to be celebrated by the Fr. John C. O'Bell. Entombment with full military honors, Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
