John Judge Jr
John J. Judge Jr., 87, Clarks Green, died Monday in Geisinger Community Medical Center. His wife of 60 years, the late Mary Joan Miller, died Jan. 1, 2012.
Born Aug. 26, 1928, in Scranton, John was the son of the late John J. and Marion (Nealon) Judge Sr. He was a resident of Clarks Green for more than 58 years, having moved from Dunmore. John was a 1946 graduate of Dunmore High School and received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Scranton. He honorably served in the Finance Corps of the Army during the Korean War.
John started his career selling popcorn and peanuts for the Scranton Red Sox, a feeder program for the Boston Red Sox. He was president of Judge Lumber, West Scranton. He was a devoted parishioner of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green, active in professional organizations, including having served on the PNC Bank associate board of directors, West Scranton branch.
Surviving are three sons, John "Jay" III, Taylor; Harold and wife, Lynn, South Abington Twp.; and Matthew and wife, Karen, River Edge, N.J.; a daughter, Joanne Judge, Scranton; two brothers, Donald Judge, Georgia; and Philip Judge and wife, Delores of Clarks Summit; 11 grandchildren, John IV, Eric, Kelly, Ryan, Sean, Caitlin, Timothy, Sara, Maggie, Molly, Kirsten; and five great-grandchildren, Kieran, Kara, Austin, Kolby and Walker.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael C. Judge.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by the Rev. John M. Lapera. Interment with full military honors, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
