James E. "Mel" McNulty, Jr.

James “Mel” McNulty Jr.

Sunday, February 14, 2021

James E. McNulty, Jr., 62, of Dickson City, died on Sunday, at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Michelle (Bartos) McNulty.

Born December 17, 1958 in Scranton, he was the son of the late James E. and Alice (Miles) McNulty, Sr.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Marywood University and worked for the United States Postal Service as a database administrator.

Jim worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot and The United States Postal Service where he traveled for his work all over the U.S. He had so many wonderful friends, and you all know what a buster he was. He was also a member of the Y.M.C.A. his whole life where he met some great people. The gang went for breakfast every Saturday for the past twenty-five years.

Jim was also involved in softball. He played locally for years and when his girls were old enough, he coached the girls’ local softball and traveling teams. He was a beloved coach and took pride in all the girls.

Riding Harleys was Jim’s favorite past time. His greatest accomplishment was riding his motorcycle across the country, hitting every state in the U.S except Hawaii of course. Alaska had been his all-time favorite to ride through. Always by his side on every trip were his best friends and his loving wife. He continued to ride his whole life until he was involved in a tragic accident in 2005. He also loved to hunt and fish previous to the accident.

Jim also loved playing poker, Texas Hold ‘em to be exact. He played and won many tournaments throughout his life. One of his dear friends, Chris Lovallo, would take him to the casino after he was no longer able to drive. We want to thank Chris for always being there for him when he needed it most.

Jim loved all of his friends and family and would drop anything to help someone out. He suffered many years since the accident with things such as epilepsy, leukemia, and in the end, dementia. Many of you know that Jim was a fighter and he fought until the Lord took him away. He is now at peace with many of his other family and friends. He was loved dearly and will be missed by us all.

We want to thank Dr. Alocci and his staff for always being there for him. We would also like to thank Bayada Hospice Care for doing a wonderful job and helping us through this. And of course our dog Fred for always being by his side and being his best friend.

Surviving, in addition to his loving wife, are three daughters: Ashley, Lindsay and Kelly McNulty, granddaughter Isabella, one brother: Danny McNulty of Wilkes Barre; nephew, Daniel McNulty, and his father and mother-in-law Joseph and Marie Bartos.

He was preceded in death by sister, Mary Theresa McNulty.

The funeral will be on Saturday with a blessing service by Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn at 2pm at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411. Military honors will follow. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 12 – 1:45pm at the funeral home. A private cremation was carried out by the funeral home at their on-site crematory.
