Eleanor S. (Klimitis) Hughes, 93, of Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2014 in VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Hughes Sr., who died March 18, 1989. Born on October 2, 1921, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bridget (Kurchaukas) Klimitis. Eleanor worked at the Inn at Nichols Village in Clarks Summit for 15 years, and later worked alongside her children at the family store, the Dalton Country Store for over 16 years, where she loved making hot lunches for all the workers who stopped in on their lunch break. Everybody at the store affectionately called her "Grandma."She was a member of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green, the Dalton Women's Club, and was active in the PTA while her children were in school.Eleanor loved cooking for family and friends, was an avid bingo player and loved taking day trips to the casinos with her family. She was friendly to everyone she met and her kind gentleness will be sadly missed.Surviving is her loving family including two sons, Robert M. and his wife, Florence of Milford, Conn.; Joseph D. Hughes, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Clarks Summit; a daughter, Ann Marie Pensack and her husband, Randy of Tunkhannock; six grandchildren, Robert Hughes; Sue Demkowych and her husband, Mark; Joseph Hughes and his wife, Dayna; Heather Hughes; Amy Farris and her husband, John, and Jason Pensack and his wife, Danielle; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Jessica and Samantha Worrell, Claire and Kate Hughes, and Sadie and Cole Pensack; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Hughes; a daughter, Barbara Hughes; brothers, Frank, Stanley and William Klimitis; and three sisters, Anna Yanul, Regina Klimitis and Della Klimitis.The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
