Constant Skaluba

Constant F. “Connie” Skaluba, 98, Scranton, passed away after a brief illness at The Gardens at Green Ridge.  He was the beloved husband of the late Jean R. (DeMuth) Skaluba who passed away on November 27, 2007.  The couple was married since May 1950.

Born April 25, 1922 in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Oliva) Skaluba. He graduated from Scranton Central High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton in 1949.

Connie and his brother Bob were self-made successful businessmen who founded Island Auto Sales in North Scranton. He was a past and charter member of North Scranton Rotary Club and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 280. Connie loved the outdoors and cherished time spent at his hunting cabin. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Parish until its closing and current parishioner of St. Paul of the Cross Parish.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Gardens of Green Ridge for their compassion and care for Connie.

Surviving are three sons: John (Roseanne) F. of Dickson City, Curt (Kathy) of Easton and George (Pamela) Skaluba of Manassas, VA, one daughter: Atty. Jane Skaluba and husband Joseph Reed of Mansfield, OH; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Marion Kelly.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Fred and Robert, and sisters, Ceil, Elizabeth, Helen, and Louise; and brother-in-law, Msgr. George DeMuth.

The funeral will be on Saturday at 10 am from St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, PA, with a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated by Fr.  Scott P. Sterowski. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Scranton, PA.  The family will receive relatives and friends from 8-9am on Saturday at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc., 111 Colburn Avenue, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
