Angeline Hnatko

Angeline DeRigge Hnatko passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018. She was the wife of the late William Hnatko Sr. of Moscow, Pa., who died April 1, 1996.

Angeline was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Dalton, Pa., where she lived for 25 years. Her parents were Anthony DeRigge and Celeste Capalango DeRigge of Cicciano, Italy. She was a 1945 graduate of Dalton High School. During her high school years, Angeline was a star basketball player - her unique hook shot earned her the name "the Dazzler," by which she was known throughout her life.

Angeline worked at the Scranton Lace Co. prior to her marriage in 1952, after which she worked as bookkeeper for her husband's orthopedic businesses in Philadelphia and Scranton. She and her husband lived in Blackwood, N.J., before moving to Lake Winola in the 1970s. There, she participated in a large number of social and community organizations, including the Democratic Women's Society of Wyoming County, the Lake Winola Ladies Auxiliary, the senior centers of Lake Winola and Tunkhannock, St. Mary's of the Lake Altar and Rosary Society. Angeline enjoyed attending church functions at St. Mary's of the Lake and it was always important to her to participate in the funeral dinners held there in the church hall. She will always be remembered for her love of family, fun and good food. She loved people and remembered everyone she met.

Angeline was a devoted and generous wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, in-law and aunt. Her family includes a son, William Hnatko Jr. and his wife, Mary Dennebaum Hnatko; grandchildren, Jennifer Hnatko Szajkowski and husband, Eric; Christopher Hnatko; and Allison Hnatko Henry, husband, Christopher and son, Jacob; sisters, Mary Catalano, of Dalton; Nancy Curra, of Clarks Summit; brothers, Frank DeRigge, of Clarks Summit; and Leonard DeRigge, of Clarks Summit; nieces and nephews.
