Alice Olympia (Sawchak) Becker, 76, Peckville, died Monday in Mid Valley Health Care Center.
Born March 23, 1942, in Olyphant, the daughter of the late Walter and Olympia (Karchefsky) Sawchak, Alice graduated Marywood University with a Bachelor of Science in education and earned a master's in education from the University of Scranton. She was employed by the Scranton School District, where she taught math and science for 31 years.
Alice was a fun-loving person who was always the life of the party. She was a member of the Century Club of Scranton and was a past officer, a benefactor of the Women's Resource Center, member of the Red Hat Society, Pennsylvania State Educators Association and an enthusiastic member of the Broadway Theater Group.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Ann Sawchak, of Waverly; nieces, Stephanie Sawchak of South Abington Twp., Christine Cohen of Clarks Summit, Dr. Kimberly D'Andrea of Moosic; three grandnieces; and a grandnephew, Devon and Cameron D'Andrea and Madeleine and Ross Cohen.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Walter Sawchak; and companion, Jack Lewis.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Edward J. Casey, assistant pastor. Interment, SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Peckville.
The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Service Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit.
