Wade Truman Whitney

Wade Truman Whitney, 79, of Dalton, died Saturday in VNA Hospice Unit, Community Medical Center . He was the husband of 37 years of the former Elizabeth A. Connolly Phillips. His first wife, the former Elsa Schoeffmann, died Sept. 4, 1972.

He was born April 6, 1931, in Scranton , and was the son of the late Neil L. and Doris Clark Whitney. A Dalton resident, he was a 1949 graduate of Scranton Central High School and furthered his studies at Keystone College and the University of Scranton. He served in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps during the Korean War. His tour of duty included two years in Austria . After his military service, he was the executive director of NEPA Motor Truck Association.

Before retiring, he was employed by the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he worked as a circulation manager. Locally, he was a self-employed entrepreneur, having restored 31 properties to livable conditions within our community.

A concerned citizen, he was active in civic activities. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the United Way fundraising campaigns and the city of Scranton Planning Commission . As president of the group "Citizens Concerned About Cemeteries," he was instrumental in the refurbishing and the restoration to original condition of veterans' monuments throughout the Scranton area. President of the board of directors for Gates of Hope House, he was very concerned and passionate about women leaving prison and not having a place to live. An accomplished tenor, at age 15 he began singing with area groups and later the Holy Rosary and Our Lady of the Snows Church choruses, as well as at weddings and funerals.

He had a lifetime interest in both civic and religious affairs. His first major accomplishment was the repair or replacement of area veterans monuments, beginning with one at the entrance of Nay Aug Park in Scranton and also the Col. Duffy statue at the Harrison Avenue Bridge . He organized and chaired the Citizens Concerned About Cemeteries committee, which forced major improvements at the Hyde Park and Abington Hills cemeteries.

A faithful member of Our Lady of the Snows Church, he was the originator of the OLS Men's Retreat and Cursillo Movement, as well as the Men's Club of Our Lady of the Snows Church, having served two terms as president. At the same time, he taught religious education and served as a Eucharistic minister.

He organized the Men's Club and Tiny Tim Christmas Project.

He was a spiritual man who had a heart for the poor. He supported the American Indians, as well as the poor in India , Africa and Haiti . In 1999, he became interested in the plight of the homeless poor in Haiti . In 2000, he enlisted the aid of the Men's Club, building a representative Haitian shack to raise funds. The following year, after visiting Haiti , he began speaking at diocesan churches. Enough funds were raised to build 27 homes in Haiti . He was also a charter committee member of the inaugural Parish Festival. He was a member of the Tobyhanna Retreat League and was the chairman of the St. Alphonsus Silver Anniversary.

Also surviving are 11 sons, Scott Whitney and wife, Petra, San Antonio, Texas; Peter Whitney and wife, Cindy, Dallas, Texas; Wade Whitney and wife, Susan, Scranton; Matthew Whitney and wife, Katey, Colchester, Conn.; Robert Phillips and wife, Brenda, Lebanon; Joseph Phillips and wife, Suzanne, Whitehall; Michael Phillips and wife, Sandra, Clarks Summit; Lawrence Phillips and wife, Diana, Lebanon; James Phillips and wife, Christine, Mehoopany; Mark Phillips and wife, Anne, Justus; and Jeffrey Phillips, at home; six daughters, Kathi Davis, Scranton; April Scheller, Dallas; Patricia L. Dippre and husband, Joseph, West Chester; Elizabeth Ann Phillips, Scranton; Mary Kate Rodenbach and husband, Gregory, Dalton; and Virginia Rumovitz, Scranton; a brother, Frank, Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Nancy Burke, Camp Hill; 34 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Neil E., who died on duty with the Air Force in 1947; and a sister, Janet L. Massey.

The funeral will be Tuesday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church , 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit . Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery .

Genevieve Lipinski Matylewicz

Genevieve Lipinski Matylewicz, 92, Newton Twp., died Thursday at home. Her husband of more than 53 years, Edward Joseph Matylewicz, died Nov. 28, 1993.

 

 

Born May 24, 1918, in Newton Twp., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Victoria Phillips Lipinski. She lived most of her life in Newton Twp. and was a graduate of Falls Overfield High School .

 

 

She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit , and was a faithful parishioner who attended Mass at the Church of St. Benedict , Newton Twp. She enjoyed her home and assisted her husband as he was an operator of excavating equipment and worked their farm. An avid gardener, she enjoyed the outdoors and caring for her family.

 

 

Surviving are a loving daughter, Regina Caroline Stevens, Newton Twp.; two sisters, Helen Anne Lipinski and Regina Woloszn, both of Falls; a grandson, Edward Stevens, Weedsort, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Julie Stevens Hickey and husband, Mitchell E., Jordan, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Kristina and Gracie Stevens and Joseph and Emma Hickey; a great-great-grandson, Michael Hagenmayer; nieces and nephews.

 

 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter ""Benny"" and Stanley Lipinski.

A graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Abington Hills Cemetery , South Abington Twp., by the Rev. Kevin P. Mulhern.

James "Jamie" Francis Kingsley III, 55, of Scranton, died June 18 in Allied Services.

Born June 21, 1954, in Long Island , N.Y. , he was the son of the late James Francis Kingsley II and the late Kathleen Kelly. Jamie was a resident of the William Warren Scranton Dorm at Allied Service on the Morgan Highway for several years. He formerly lived in Hempstead, Long Island .

Jamie faced life's challenges with a smile and enjoyed his friends and caregivers at Allied Services. The family is very grateful to the caregivers at Allied for enriching so much of Jamie's life.

Surviving are a sister, Kathleen V. Kingsley Jacobs and husband, Charles "Chuck" Jacobs, Clarks Summit; a niece, Allison K. Jacobs, Clarks Summit; and a half-sister, Patricia Kingsley Lang, Melbourne, Fla.

A memorial graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly, by the Rev. Errol Morgan, pastor of Parker Hill Community Church, Clarks Green.

George "Chip"

Nichols Bunnell Jr.

June 23, 2010


George "Chip" Nichols Bunnell Jr., 55, Tunkhannock, Northmoreland Twp., died Wednesday in the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital . He was the husband of the former Susan Jane Barber.

Chip was born Oct. 20, 1954, in Scranton and was the son of George N. Bunnell Sr., Clarks Summit , and Betty Kresge Bunnell, Falls. He was a 1972 graduate of Abington Heights High school and he studied engineering at the University of Pittsburgh , Johnstown campus. He and Suzi married in July 1978 and moved to Tunkhannock where they prospered and raised their family.

He was owner of Bunnell's Hardware Store, Clarks Summit , and Bunnell Real Estate Co. He had been a member of a local carpenters union and formerly was employed by Sordoni Construction. He was active in the community and was a member of various business organizations, including the Abington Sportsman Club, Abington Business and Professional Organization, Factoryville Sportsman Club, Amateur Trap Shooting Association and National Rifle Association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit . An avid hunter and an accomplished marksman with trap, skeet, silhouette and sporting clays.

The constant in Chip's life was always his family. A devoted husband who enjoyed the times he spent with his loving children and the love of his life, granddaughter Adi. He lived life to the fullest even during his courageous battle with cancer. He had concern for others, shared his wisdom, provided insight and fiercely strived to the end. During his illness, he provided comfort and shared his personal experiences with other cancer patients. His smile and loving gentleness will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie Ann Bunnell, Clarks Summit; and Kaitlyn Jane Bunnell, Tunkhannock; three brothers, David and wife, Chris, Spokane, Wash.; Jonathon and wife, Cindy, Clarks Summit; and Mark, Falls; a granddaughter, Adison Eagono, whom Chip idolized; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Jane Bunnell Holman, in February.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from First Presbyterian Church, 300 School St. , Clarks Summit , with services by the Rev. William G. Carter, pastor. Interment, Clarks Green Cemetery , Clarks Green.

Joseph Kovacs

Joseph Kovacs, C.C.P., P.A., 85, of Clarks Green and formerly of Waverly, died Wed-nesday at home in the care of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. His loving wife of 55 years is the former Martha Nagy.

Born April 10, 1925, in Torontalvasarhely, Hungary, son of the late Joseph Ban-dirko and Elizabeth Tasnadi Kovacs, he lived in Clarks Green two years and Waverly for 35 years. He earned a medical education at the Pazmany Peter Tudomanyegyetem Medical School in Budapest .

On Jan. 1, 1957, he immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in Philadelphia . Initially, he worked in research at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and later was associated with the late heart surgeon, Dr. Henry Nichols, at Deborah Heart Hospital in New Jersey . In 1972, he was the first clinical cardiac perfusionist, assisting Dr. Siamak Hamzavi in open heart surgery at Mercy Hospital in Scranton .

He was actively involved in community and professional organizations and was a board member of the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology. In 1972, he was honored for his presentation of a paper at the society's cardiac research conference in Atlanta . He was an avid gardener and world traveler.

His family would like to extend sincerely its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard Gratz and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart care, especially nurses Lori M. Reese and Ann Seechock. We are forever grateful for their compassionate care and kindness.

Also surviving are a son, Dr. Stephen J. Kovacs and wife, Laura Jean, Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Katrina Maurer and husband, John, Clarks Green; four grandchildren, Stephanie Rose, Nicholas and Christopher Kovacs and Matthew J. Maurer; and nieces.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Julius.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit, with Mass at 11 in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Gary Evan Eichelsdorfer

 Gary Evan Eichelsdorfer 69 years, Clarks Summit, died Tuesday, in Hospice Community Care. His wife of 47 years was the former Mary Ann Wernet.

He was born June 8, 1941 in Rochester , NY and was the son of the late Raymond William and Charlotte (Thomas)

Eichelsdorfer . He lived in the Clarks Summit since 1976 and previously lived State College, Detroit Mich. , and was formerly of Erie .

  He was a 1959 graduate of Cathedral Prep, Erie , and he received his bachelors degree in Mathematics from Gannon University , Erie and his master degree in Mathematics from the University of Detroit Michigan . Mr. Gary Eichelsdorfer joined The University of Scranton as an instructor in 1965. He was involved with doctoral studies at Penn State University . He retired as an associate professor from the University in 2007 having served in numerous capacities including positions on the Faculty Affairs Council, Faculty Development Committee, Faculty Handbook Committee, and Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics. He was a member of the Pro Deo et Universitate. As a member of the National Mathematics Society, he served as the coordinator for the State of Pennsylvania and was honored at the State Department for his dedicated service.

 He was active in the community, and also with various regional groups dedicated to enhancing education in mathematics. He served as State Director of the American High School Mathematics Contest and was the coordinator of the Actuarial Science Program and past Chair of the Mathematics Department.

  He was a member of The Church of St. Gregory , Clarks Green. He was the cofounder of the NE Photography Club in 1989 in conjunction with his wife and friend Jerry Barrett. He loved taking pictures of beautiful flowers most of all and his pictures were shown in museums and honored in exhibitions. He was an avid fan of the Phillies and enjoyed playing golf. He loved to travel and took pleasure in life.

  His family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Mark Lyons, Sharon Palushock, Kristin Liptock, Charles Grad and the Hospice Community Care of Dunmore , especially nurses Denise and Liz. We are forever grateful for the care and kindness shared .

Mary Grace Rock Kennedy of Scranton died Sunday in Mercy Hospital . She was married 53 years to the late Bernard Kennedy Sr., who died Oct. 2, 2003.

Born Dec. 9, 1917, in Scranton , she was the daughter of the late Andrew A. and Grace Naughton Rock. A lifelong Scranton resident, she was a 1936 graduate of Holy Rosary High School and was a former buyer for the Globe Store.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Church , Scranton , the Holy Rosary School Alumni Association and the Providence Senior Citizens Club, where she served on the board of directors and enjoyed playing cards. Proud to be married to a veteran, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Abington Memorial Post 7069 and the auxiliary of the China, Burma, India Veterans Group. She was also a member of the Tauras Club, North Scranton . She loved ballroom dancing and was a former member of the Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association.

A gracious lady with dignity, she cherished her family and was an avid reader. Proud of her heritage, she would share interesting stories of history. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and socializing with their many friends. A faithful woman, she instilled her values in her children and grandchildren. Her gentleness and beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are a daughter and caregiver, Maureen O'Malley and husband, Robert, Scranton; a son, Bernard Kennedy Jr. and wife, Bernadette, Medford, Mass.; a daughter-in-law, Karen Kennedy, Abingdon, Md.; seven grandchildren, Katie O'Malley and fiancé, Brian Van Valen, Scranton; Sarah Kennedy Lopez and husband, Cris, Marietta, Ga.; Michael, Jason and Ryan Kennedy, Medford; and Corrie and Meghan Kennedy, Abingdon; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Rose O'Malley Van Valen, Scranton.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Kennedy, on Sept. 26; a sister, Rose Rock Foley; four brothers, Michael, Edward, Andrew and James; and an infant sister, Elizabeth Jane.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church , 316 William St. , Scranton , to be celebrated by the Rev. Cyril D. Edwards. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery .

A memorial Mass has been scheduled for Annette Miluszusky Senior, 50, formerly of South Abington Twp., who died Jan. 11, 2009. She was the wife of Brian Senior.

Born Aug. 31, 1959, in Scranton , daughter of Lillian Simoncic Miluszusky, South Abington Twp., and the late Bernard Peter, she was a 1977 graduate of Abington Heights High School and received an associate's degree from Fisher College , Boston . She was office manage for Endless Mountain Stone Co.

Also surviving are a son, David Senior, Lock Haven; and three sisters, Bernita Czerpak, Lansdale; Christine Milus, South Abington Twp.; and Marie Reese, Lake Worth, Fla.

John Donito

John Donvito, 89, of La Plume, died Thursday at home. He and his wife of 55 years, Erma Petro Donvito, married on April 21, 1955.

Born July 6, 1920, in the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore, son of the late Joseph and Adelina Grippo Donvito, he was proud to have lived in LaPlume since 1956. He was educated in the Clarks Summit School . Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor , John wanted to serve his country and joined the Marines. He was a decorated, disabled veteran, having received the Purple Heart medal after being wounded in Okinawa .

He was founder of Clarks Summit Building Supply and the Clarks Summit True Value hardware store, which he had owned and operated since 1950. He was a member of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church , Dalton , VFW Abington Memorial Post 7069 and other professional and business organization while owning his business.

John's fondest memories were growing up in Clarks Summit and working in his father's shoe shop. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener. A true craftsman at heart, he would work with wood and make things to share with others in his home workshop. He was an accomplished home improver have completed many home projects.

Also surviving are a brother, William, Clarks Summit; two sisters, Laura Borushak and husband, William, Stroudsburg; and Edith Novak, Black Walnut; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, Richard, Frank and Arthur; and a sister, Philomena "Fanny" Arre.

The funeral will be Monday, with Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Abingtons Church , 700 W. Main St. , Dalton . Interment with full military honors in Abington Hills Cemetery , South Abington Twp.

April LilaBreward May 9, 2010, 81, of Scranton, died Sunday in Green Ridge Health Care Center .

Born July 21, 1928, in Scranton , daughter of the late Josiah and Margaret Cunningham Breward, Lila was a lifelong Scranton resident and was educated in Scranton schools.

Surviving are two sisters, Louise Zacker and husband, Joseph; and Alicia Dunlop, all of Scranton .

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Mary Breward; and two nephews, Dana and Joseph Paul Zacker.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Primitive Methodist Cemetery , Dickson City , to be officiated by the Rev. Eric L. Bergman, pastor, St. Thomas More Society.

Dr. Paul J. Langan

April 23, 2010

Dr. Paul J. Langan, 80, formerly of Clarks Summit, died April 23 in Dripping Springs, Texas . His wife of 48 years, the former Joan Audrey Domin, died July 31, 2003.

Born in Scranton on Nov. 21, 1929, to the late J. Paul and Mary Brady Langan, he lived in Clarks Summit from 1969 to 2005, when he retired to Brandon , Fla. He moved to Dripping Springs in the fall of 2006.

He was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School, where he was well-known for his athleticism; the University of Scranton; and University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Langan honorably served in the Army during the Korean War. He was proud to be from North Scranton , where he practiced dentistry for more than 30 years. With his generous heart, he served the community through his professional career, often donating services to those less fortunate.

Paul was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Parish, Clarks Summit, where he was a daily communicant. He was a longtime member of the Country Club of Scranton .

A devoted husband and loving father, he had a quick wit and ready smile. He was blessed with a large extended family and many close and loyal friends. Always athletic, he enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including golf, tennis and fishing. He especially enjoyed sharing yearly vacations swimming, sunning and socializing at the beach.

Surviving are a son, Paul J. Langan, Rock Hill, S.C.; two daughters, Patrice Langan, Denver; and Janet M. Langan and husband, Michael Jessup, Dripping Springs; a sister, Patricia and husband, Jack Snyder, Scranton; a granddaughter, Audrey Anne Langan, Rock Hill; cousins, nieces and nephews.

He also was a preceded in death by a son, James P. Langan, and a sister, Shirley Ermer.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows Church , 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit . Interment, Cathedral Cemetery .

The family will receive relatives and friends May 26 from 9:30 to Mass time at the church. A celebration luncheon will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Stirna's Restaurant, 120 W. Market St. , Scranton .

Antoine Sister Memorial Service

Saturday May 1, 2010

 

Memorial Services will be held for the Antoine sisters Saturday at 1:00 pm in the Mount Bethel Baptist Church , 1341 Layton Road , Scott Township . With service by Rev. Donald Hasselman, Pastor, Mount Bethel Baptist Church, Internment Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Layton Road, Justus.

Helen Olivia (Antoine) Davenport was born February 28, 1918 and died December 18, 2009;

Vivian Muriel (Antoine) Barnard, was born June 25, 1921 and died April 9, 2010; and

Betty Jean Antoine was born January 30, 1928 and died January 30, 2010.

These sister were the daughters of the late Merle C. and Georgia Mathilda Hamilton Antoine.

They were preceded in death by a sister Ruth Elizabeth Antoine Little who was born January 18, 1920 an died November 5, 2000.

Brian McGuirk

Brian McGuirk, 54, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday at home.

Born Feb. 8, 1956, in San Francisco , he was the son of Gladys Bahlhorn McGuirk, Fort Lauderdale , Fla. , and the late Dwayne Edwin McGuirk. He lived in Clarks Summit since 2001 and formerly was of Spokane, Wash.

He was a 1973 graduate of Van Nuys High School and attended Los Angeles Valley College , Van Nuys, and Sacramento City College . He honorably served his country in the Air Force from 1974 to 1978 as an air-traffic controller at Mather Air Force Base, Sacramento , Calif. He formerly was employed by Unitrin Insurance Co. as a manager.

He enjoyed golf, reading, cooking and the outdoors, and he had wonderful taste in music. He had a heartwarming laugh and intelligent sense of humor. Most of all, he was a father of devotion beyond comparison, and his family was his life.

Also surviving are a son, Ari McGuirk, serving in the Air Force stationed at Pope Air Force Base, N.C.; three daughters, Natalie, Annika and Alexis McGuirk, Clarks Summit; a sister, Patrice Blackstone, Seattle; and his former wife, Sulema "Sue" D. Soto-Correa and husband, Marcelo Correa, Clarks Summit.

Also preceding him in death were a sister, Michele Carla McGuirk, and a daughter, Noelle Elizabeth McGuirk.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows, 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit . Interment, Clarks Green Cemetery . The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave. , Clarks Summit .

 


 

Elaine Williams

Radkiewicz Bistocchi

Elaine Williams Radkiewicz Bistocchi, 70, of Clarks Summit, died Thursday, at home. She was the wife of Ferdinand B.J. Bistocchi II, who died Aug. 17, 2006.

Born Aug. 18, 1939, in Scranton , she was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Ann Connor Williams. Elaine's early years were spent with her family helping out at home with her 10 younger brothers and sisters and at her parents' pie shop, Williams Pies, Dunmore. Elaine also helped the Handy Dandy stores, her grandfather's chain, by doing bookkeeping. She had a great business sense from a very early age. She was educated at St. Ann 's School, Scranton , and graduated from Abington Heights High School .

Elaine served her community in many ways. She held the offices of president and vice president of Abington Junior Women's Club. She served as a board member of Lackawanna County Federation of Women's Clubs, was vice president of Christian Mothers of Our Lady of Snows and was chairman of the seventh annual Abington Community Library Auction. Elaine also served as director of St. Gabriel Retreat League and on the board of the Arthritis Foundation. She was active in many fundraising activities for the community, including the United Way campaign. She was voted Northeast Woman in 1984.

Elaine always had an optimistic and firm belief that anything was possible. She learned to fly an airplane and became a licensed pilot in 1984. She had an entrepreneurial spirit and the vision, work ethic and determination to see her dreams through. She had an incredibly positive attitude.

Elaine was a Realtor for 38 years. She was owner and broker of record of Steamtown Real Estate and has been involved in many real-estate partnerships.

Surviving are five children, three daughters, Susan Dorsey and husband, Jeff, Oxford N.Y.; Lanie Rosencrance and husband, Clyde, Clarks Summit; and Peggy Hurd and husband, Tom, Richford, N.Y.; and two sons, John Radkiewicz and wife, Rita, Palmyra; and Tom Radkiewicz and wife, Kathleen, Newton Twp.; seven sisters, Nan Harris and husband, Dave; Susan Hoffman and husband, Howard; Julie Hill and husband, George; Dorothy Moher and husband, Bobby; and Mary DiMatteo and husband, Tom, all of Clarks Summit; Laura Harris and husband, Ron, Kingston; and Virginia Messler and husband, Bruce, Waverly. Also surviving are three brothers, Roy Williams and wife, Marie, Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla.; Mike Williams and wife, Barb, Clarks Green; and Richard Williams and wife, Laurel, Ransom; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; an uncle, Joseph N. Connor; cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Snows, 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor James J. McGarry. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery . The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave. , Clarks Summit.

Christina Trento

April 2, 2010

Christina Trento, 86, of Clarks Summit, died Friday upon arrival at Community Medical Center . She was the wife of Anthony D. Trento Sr., who died Aug. 14, 2006. The couple was just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary.

Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Manhattan , N.Y. , she was the daughter of the late John and Marie Lablanca Antonino. Before moving to Clarks Summit, she lived in the Poconos and was formerly of Great Neck, N.Y. She was educated in New York schools.

Christina and her husband moved to the Poconos to enjoy their retirement. They traveled to Stuart , Fla. , for the winters. They truly enjoyed each other and their retirement golden years. She cherished the many happy times shared as a family.

She was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She especially enjoyed preparing meals for her family and was known as the best cook. She enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo and her many trips to the casinos. A gracious, dignified woman, she was a lady who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are two sons, Anthony D. Trento Jr., and wife, Elizabeth, Clarks Summit; and Ernest Trento, Locust Valley, N.Y.; a daughter, Emma Marchetti and husband, Joseph, Burnsville, N.C.; two brothers, Nunzio Antonino, Manhattan; and Phillip Antonino, Staten Island, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christina Trento Strain, on Aug. 8.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m., with Mass in Our Lady of the Snows, 301 S. State St. , Clarks Summit. Entombment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre . The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave. , Clarks Summit.

Kathleen Kingsley Kelly

Kathleen Kingsley Kelly, 83, of Clarks Summit, died Tuesday in Mountain View Care Center . Her husband, James F. Kingsley II, died May 7, 1997.

Born March 23, 1927, in Birdsnest , Va. , she was the daughter of the late George Ogden Mattis and Ethel Virginia Bonneville Kelly. Her father died when she was 5 months old, and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Theron Henry Webb.

She grew up in Marion Station, Md., and was a 1945 graduate of Marion High School . She lived in Hempstead, Long Island , N.Y. , for nearly 60 years before moving to Allied Assisted Living, Scranton , in 2004. Before retiring, she worked in the accountancy and nursing professions.

Kathleen was a loving and devoted mother to Kathy and Jamie who always had the time to teach and nurse her children. Holidays and birthdays were beautiful times of music and family feasting. When Jamie suffered from developmental delays, she and her husband, James, helped other concerned parents set the precedent of educating mentally challenged people through organizing a school. She was a health-conscious, voracious reader who studied nutrition long before it was fashionable and read "Gray's Anatomy" for enjoyment.

Surviving are a son, James F. "Jamie" Kingsley III, Scranton ; a daughter, Kathleen V. "Kathy" Kingsley Jacobs and husband, Chuck, Clarks Summit; a granddaughter, Allie Jacobs, Clarks Summit; and a stepdaughter, Patricia Kingsley Lang, Melbourne , Fla.

She also was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Lee Webb.

The memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Parker Hill Community Church , 607 N. Abington Road , Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Jamie Overholser. Interment at Hickory Grove Cemetery , Waverly, at the family's convenience.
